[SMALL TOWN SPOTLIGHT] East Aurora, NY East Aurora is a village in Erie County, New York, United States, southeast of Buffalo. It lies in the eastern half of the town of Aurora. The village population was 5,998 per the 2020 census. The village was founded in 1804, and incorporated in 1874. According to the National Council of Home Safety and Security, it is also among the safest places to live in New York State (ranked 1st, 2018). East Aurora is tucked alongside some of the most breathtaking and natural landscapes in the area. As you're strolling into town, you'll come across the beautiful 633-acre state park known as Knox Farm. Prior to becoming President of the United States, Millard Fillmore lived in East Aurora with his wife Abigail from 1826 to 1830. The house he built there while practicing law in the beginning of his political career is currently maintained by the Aurora Historical Society. The 1825 structure is restored to that period and features some original Fillmore furniture of the era, as well as items from Fillmore's presidential years. East Aurora is also the birthplace of and home to the corporate headquarters for Fisher-Price.[8] From 1987 through 2007[9] the village and the Toy Town Museum (an independent non-profit organization located on the Fisher-Price campus) held the Toyfest Festival, which included the Toyfest parade featuring giant replicas of classic Fisher-Price toys. East Aurora was one of the first communities to successfully block a Walmart store, in 1995 and again in 1999. The act was led by a community group in an attempt to preserve the small town values, and help support privately owned businesses. #smalltownspotlight #ny #getaway #weekend

????Roses aren't just for flowers, Visit Rose Hill on Tivoli one day! [SMALL TOWN SPOTLIGHT] Tivoli is a village in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population is 1,012, according to the 2020 census. The village, which was incorporated in 1872 from parts of Upper Red Hook Landing and Madalin, is the northernmost settlement in the county, located in the northwestern part of the town of Red Hook. For thousands of years, indigenous peoples had lived in this area. The historic Mohican Native American tribe was living in the area now known as Tivoli at the time Dutch colonists arrived in the 1600. The Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, located at 120 Broadway in Tivoli, New York, is described as a "cultural park for dance". It is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which provides a retreat for residencies of dance companies to create or develop new works. Founded in 1990 by Gregory Cary (dancer), Bentley Roton (Broadway dancer), Martine van Hamel and Kevin McKenzie, it is located on the former 153-acre Tivoli Farms, purchased in 1997, which was once the "equestrian playground" for Eleanor Roosevelt. The grounds include a "music barn" designed by Stanford White which is designated for restoration and renovation. There is a popular bar in town named the Traghaven, it claims to feature the largest selection of Irish whiskies in the United States. Tivoli was once the home of painters Brice and Helen Marden. With that said, this quaint village is known for art and architecture. It is so beloved by locals that in the 1970s, its then-mayor gave it a slogan that stuck: “We like to say Tivoli backwards: I-lov-it.” Mr. Molinaro was once the youngest elected mayor in the country in Tivoli, the Hudson Valley village where he came of age. At one time, the mayor of Valatie, my hometown, had the youngest mayor. There must be something in the water. Teeny-weeny Tivoli at Dutchess County’s north edge has more sophistication than a lot of style-forward cities. And nowhere is that more evident than at Hotel Tivoli, a three-storey villa dating from 1910 lovingly converted into a cute, quirky boutique hotel with art and designer-homeware gallery. #ValentinesDay #Trivoli #Ny
