SSU at LEO: This Wednesday we held the last of two sessions where master's level students from Salem State visited LEO to support our community by performing developmental assessment tests. Targeting readiness and discovering the need for early intervention is crucial. This is an enormous service to us, while simultaneously satisfying course requirements for the students. They were so well prepared and our children were at ease. Even having fun! While the children worked, their parents attended workshops managed by SSU students. Great conversations were had, and connections were made. Thank you, Vikings! Thank you LEO staff who work at night (after long days) to make this possible.

A NOTE FROM OUR CEO, Birgitta S. Damon The 2024 election is behind us. This morning I went to my happy place, a run with a view of the ocean. The air was warm, the sunrise was beautiful. While I feel the uncertainty, I am choosing hope. Please take care of yourselves, this is real life. Go slowly. Actionable agenda items include; making a meal your family loves, getting fresh air, and going to bed early. I wish I could make you promises for the future of our programs, but I can't. What I can do is outline what is real. ?We are a community of doers, we care for and about each other, that won't change. ?We offer life changing services to the most vulnerable in our community, we will continue. ?When the chips are down, we rally. I think back to the COVID days and beam at what we accomplished. We are battle tested. Head Start and Community Action has had bipartisan support for 60 years. Our contribution to the greater good is proven. Our collective voice is our super power, if you are affiliated with LEO as staff, partners, families, clients, or donors, you are our community and together we are tribe! We have your backs, and look forward to you having ours. I can't say it any better than the Executive Director of the National Head Start Association, Yasmina Vinci, "Now it's ok if you're not feeling quite as hopeful as I am, take some time to feel what you are feeling, and then get ready for the journey forward. No matter what happens, we have work to do and the children (and our clients) need us to be at our best."

It was a bluebird sky over our Broad Street renovation yesterday! We were honored to welcome Congressman Seth Moulton to see our progress as we enter the final stages of completion. He has been our champion from the start, congressionally allocating $1.3M through the Community Projects Fund. Moulton rallies for LEO and other critical projects in the Mass. 6th District, as does Mayor Jared Nicholson who attended and toured our facility. Early education warriors! The best part was sitting down and listening to impact statements from our staff and parents on what this renovation will mean to them. Everyone left INSPIRED! #buildingpotential

She is not afraid to say when she's wrong, and is always working to improve on her own skills. She never hesitates to roll up her sleeves and work hands on.
