The Ohio Society of CPAs recently published an article in its CPA Takeaways featuring Joe Soltesz and his cross-country biking accomplishment. The nearly 4,000-mile trip from Bar Harbor, Maine to Anacortes, Washington took Joe 58 days, averaging about 70 miles per day. “I wasn't trying to set any speed records when I did this; I was trying to take in all the scenery and get a feeling for what our country was all about while accomplishing my distance goal,” Soltesz said.? According to the article: Soltesz does not plan to make any more cross-country bike trips — the time commitment takes away from spending quality time with his grandchildren and he’s satisfied with having accomplished this goal.?“You get an idea of what America is all about and how big the country is,” he said. “You get away from all the news, distractions, and realities of life for a while. Christy Woskobojnik was able to experience the Miami heat and energy with colleagues and friends while attending APSCo's 2024 US trade delegation.? Being able to meet APSCo's CEO Ann Swain was a highlight, as well as reuniting with PGC team members Rick Hughes and Bethan Hanson. One of DY USA’s core values is to "Be better than yesterday," which was in full effect as Christy had the opportunity to learn valuable information during the many presentations offered, like the ones made by PGC Group’s Managing Director Amy Davies as well as Carla Roberts from WTT Legal and one of our clients Lisa Walder a co-founder of FIFTEEN WEST. Another highlight was having the privilege of hosting dinner for the delegates on Thursday evening with the sounds of a live band in the bar. And for some added fun, the manager overheard the group discussing karaoke at their table and sent the singer over for a little sing along. What fun! ?? And can't forget to send a huge thank you shout out to Baz Sultana for the work that went in to organizing such a great event! Congratulations to the APSCo team, presenters, and sponsors on a delivering days and programs filled with education, relationship building, and laughter.

"I completed my ride on Saturday, August 3! During the last week of our trip, I rode through the northern part of the State of Washington, including the North Cascades National Park.?The ride through the park included climbs up four mountain passes?(Sherman – 5,575 feet, Wauconda-4,310 feet, Loup Loup-4,020 feet and Washington-5,477 feet).?We went through the small towns of Ione, Kettle Falls, Republic, Tonasket, Omak, Winthrop, and Marblemount before finishing my cross-country adventure on the Pacific Coast in Anacortes, Washington.? ? The climb up to Sherman Pass was 14 miles with an elevation gain of about 3,200 feet, and the climb up to Loup Loup Pass was 12 miles with about 3,000 feet of climbing.?I split the climb up to Washington Pass into two days, starting the second day with a six mile climb of 1,500 feet.?The views during the entire week were spectacular, including mountain views with snowcapped peaks, desert type views in the valleys between the passes, and Indian reservations. The towns of Republic and Winthrop were western style tourist-themed locations in the valleys of the Cascades.?The final day I woke up early and rode 70 miles from Marblemount, Washington to Anacortes, Washington where I put my front wheel into Pacific Ocean! ? In summary, the trip was something I’m glad I did! Besides accomplishing my biking goal, it was an amazing experience to visit small towns I wouldn’t have gone to on vacation while meeting locals plus the chance to tour Niagara Falls, Glacier National Park and other landmarks.?The actual ride was more difficult mentally then physically…it was a rollercoaster of emotions.?I was very lucky with the weather since it didn’t rain much after the first three days nor did I have to face any really hot days. I only had to deal with strong headwinds a few days.? ? I rode a total of 3,735 miles in 58 days, which included five rest days. We are back home and ready to start “normal life” again.?Would I ever ride across the country again?...Only if I could turn the clock back 10 years or so.????Cheers! ~ Joe" ?
