Is Healthcare Lending Filling the Gap? HUD/FHA healthcare lending has been amazingly resilient during this rate increase cycle. At the peak of HUD/FHA lending, healthcare lending made up 10% of total HUD/FHA originations. Since then, healthcare lending dropped only 14%, based on 2023 originations, while multifamily dropped over 73%. During 2023 healthcare lending increased to make up over 25% of HUD/FHA originations and so far for 2024 has increased this share to over 30%. With many of the healthcare REITs and typical healthcare lending sources going through quite a reset it appears HUD has stepped in to fill this gap in the market.
