Patty Smith Hill understood the assignment. Long before brain science confirmed the importance of responsive interactions, the Patty Hill, NAEYC's first president, insisted that early learning builds a child's belief in their own abilities. And that belief fuels confident learning, a vital tool for overcoming obstacles and economic distress. She created classroom environments where children could freely explore, communicate, and build confidence through natural expression. She believed that ALL children, regardless of economic background, had the potential to thrive through meaningful interactions and play. This idea played out in her continuous work to promote high-quality instruction in kindergarten education. Her legacy lives on in every classroom where children find their voice. Her story is SO interesting! We were thrilled to see LENA's technology featured in The Hechinger Report article about how our programs are helping teachers create more interactive classroom environments! Data talks: 1 in 4 children experience little attention from caregivers, even in high-rated programs. But when teachers use LENA's technology and coaching to track and improve conversational turns, some pretty amazing stuff happens. Our research shows that reaching 40 conversational turns per hour creates optimal brain development. That's why cities, states, and programs across the country are investing in our programs. Every interaction counts in building young brains. Did you know Maria Montessori was a doctor? She was the first woman in Europe to earn a medical degree. Her expertise was in psychiatry. In 1907, Maria opened her first school in Italy called the Children's House, a school for children ages 3-6. As a doctor and teacher, she watched how children learned. What she saw was simple but powerful: children learn best when they can explore and interact freely. Through watching children closely, she discovered what research now proves. Real and natural conversations with children and child-led play help them learn more. Today, her ideas still shape how we think about teaching young children. #WomensHistoryMonth #WomensHistory #WomenInECE #EarlyChildhoodEducation #EarlyChildhoodEducators #EarlyChildhood #EarlyLearning

Studies show that more kids now than ever are struggling to do their schoolwork because they can't read well. But there's hope. A way to change this for future generations of children. Science shows babies learn to read later by talking and interacting with adults now. Children who develop #EarlyLiteracySkills from birth are more likely to succeed in school AND have better overall life outcomes. That's why LENA helps measure and boost these important conversations.
