Step into Todd Gray’s Los Angeles studio, where the artist invites us to question the relationship between meaning and images. Citing the influence of cultural theorist Stuart Hall, Gray also examines our ideas around the African diaspora, colonialism, and societal power dynamics. The film coincides with Gray’s solo exhibition, ‘While Angels Gaze’, currently on view at our New York gallery through March 22. In his show, Gray presents a suite of new pieces that combine images from his music photography archive, work made in the early 2000s, and photographs taken during his fellowship at the American Academy in Rome in 2023.
