Takeaways from an impactful workshop / conference No need to come up with something revolutionary. Simply share your own experiences – the ups and the downs. ? What have you learned? ? What have you accomplished? ? What do you wish you knew a year ago? ? What do you know that might benefit other students? Sharing your experiences turns your profile into a narrative. And a narrative is what makes you memorable. — PS. Not comfortable creating a post? Start with commenting. Comments are like mini-posts that allow you to take part in the conversation without having to initiate the topic. But say more than just "I agree" or "This is interesting." Instead, try commenting with questions, additional insights, or personal experiences.

But what truly separates a great intern from a good—or even a bad—one? First impressions matter. But unfortunately, many students miss the mark on LI. Their profiles are a lot like John's (image below): Vague, non-descriptive, and unmemorable This dulls the first impression they give. Imagine you've just applied to your target internship and listed your LI URL on your resume. The recruiter hops over to your profile and sees: ? A non-descriptive banner ? A blurry, poorly cropped headshot ? A headline that is vague and overly common Not the best first impression (on LI). Will this disqualify you from the internship? Of course not. But it won't make you memorable either. Compare it to Ron's profile (image below). The recruiter sees: ? A banner that tells a story ? A sharp, well cropped headshot ? A headline that highlights key qualifications These details matter. Both to human viewers and the LI Recruiter algorithm. They make the viewer want to scroll and learn more. There's a lot more to an impactful LI profile (and presence) than just these three areas, but they are the first thing your profile viewer sees. "Is it OK if I view the interviewer's LinkedIn profile?" A common question from students. Yes, it's OK. And not just OK, but something you should routinely do. They're doing their research on you, and you should do the same. Now, the question is "what am I looking for?" You're looking for: ? Common ground ? Relevant company / industry info ? Clues about what's important to them You can find some of this in their About, Education, and Experience sections. But also scan through their Featured section, mutual connections, and activity (posts / comments / reactions). The information you find can be used before, during, and after the interview. → Before Maybe they... ??Regularly post about going on hikes ??Volunteer for a cause you also care about ??Attended the same university you are attending Bring those up in the pre-interview small talk if there's a natural opening to do so. → During Maybe they... ??Posted about a new project the company is working on ??Reposted an article about a key industry trend ??Featured a podcast they've appeared on Incorporate those into your answers. → After Maybe they... ??Posted about a recongition the company attained ??Have gained certifications while at the company ??Have stayed at the company for 10+ years Tie those into thoughtful questions about the company and the interviewer. — Sometimes you find plenty of information that will help you in the interview, sometimes a little less. But you should always do your best to get to know the person on the other side of the table. Do your research – it'll show. — PS. Viewing their profile can lead to them viewing yours, so it’s important your profile is up to date and optimized to your target roles.

This week I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Lehigh University Center for Career & Professional Development team to celebrate our amazing faculty and staff members. The "CCPD Sips and Sweets: Faculty & Staff Celebration" welcomed campus partners from across departments to join us in the Career Center to share about and celebrate the end of the semester while enjoying seasonal treats together. The event was filled with smiles, laughter, and great conversations about career resources and partnership opportunities (plus lots of sweet confections and a hot cocoa bar). Our Career Connector events with faculty and staff always leave me with a sense of gratitude for our campus ecosystem and the core values here at Lehigh. I am already looking forward to future events!
