We are having our German?/ European premiere in Nuremberg next week on the biggest screen in Germany if not Europe.?Thank you to Dirk Paessler and Carbon Drawdown Initiative for your vision and support in bringing Legion 44 to such a big screen.?Given this event, I would like to highlight the work of Legion 44’s cinematographer, Harun Mehmedinovic and his choice of using anamorphic lenses for the project.?The choice of anamorphic for documentaries is unusual given the widescreen format.?But we chose that format because it showed the work of innovators, in context.?The wide frames allowed us, for example, to show a discussion, while also revealing what was happening in the world, like this shot wherein Corey Pattison of Cella meets with the Suswa Maasai and in the background one sees an oncoming threat, a very large, dustdevil.?Harun’s work has throughout his career brought the beauty of the world to people globally and I thank him for his collaboration on this film. Thank you Singapore for a terrific Asia premiere!?The energy at the screening was curious, active, productive and pragmatic.??Pauline Wray pulled together stakeholders who can really take action and it was encouraging given that the films we make are for those very people in the audience. As I mentioned in the Q+A, our films are frameworks that outline pathways to a future that can work.?I loved meeting everyone including our supporters of the event, Michael Harte and Adrian Grante of CaptureNow and Huey Lin of Terraformation. Legion 44 did a deep dive on CDR in part due to the nature of the innovators of the CDR industry itself. They a collaborative, innovative, global and diverse and they are a group that are very aware of externalities, legacies and potential pathways. These people are early innovators in the CDR industry.?And, they are not alone, so many more have created innovative companies and pathways to capture, use and sequester carbon. Legion 44 just played our world festival premiere at the Yellow Springs Film Festival in Yellow Springs, Ohio.?Leila Conners was joined by cinematographer Harun Mehmedinovic and the song writers of Legion 44’s song “In Your Arms” Joe Minde-Berman and Aidan Petersen.?They performed before the screening which set the tone and the projection of the film and sound were impeccable. A big thank you to Eric Mahoney and Ian for putting on such a terrific and independent film fest.?Optically, this festival was pitch perfect for our film outing given its independent take with their programming.?The town itself is a leader in environmental thinking so our screening was packed with people who were receptive. The audience was at times moved, and I heard again the word “joyful” and there were tearful emotions at the end.?We heard from a fellow documentarian who attended that he was relieved it was positive and that we are all going to be saved by “algae and nerds.” Maybe that’s one for the poster! The Legion 44 sneak peak Premiere in NYC had over 400 wonderful people, a mixture of CDR innovators, university students, investors, institutions all coming together to imagine a world that is possible, a world that lives inside a balanced carbon cycle. The screening required 2 theaters at the AMC Empire on 42nd street and the afterparty at the Boom Boom Room at the Standard Hotel was electric. Thank you to the many CDR innovators who we filmed with and thank you to cinematographer Harun Mehmedinovic and composer Marc Streitenfeld to make an incredibly beautiful film.?Thank you to Aidan Petersen, and his music collaborators Joe, Truuman and Gideon to produce the songs for the film that will also carry our vision to a larger audience. Paulina and Fabian who came on the impact ride. And I thank you to our Executive Producers Max, Mark, Dirk, Albert, Susan (Gigi), Allon, Alexandra, Brendan, Eric Lux, Guy, Rob, Ian, Simon and Jenny who gave us the means to make this film.
