The Legally BLK Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting aspiring Black women attorneys and increasing the representation of Black women in law. Only 2% of attorneys in the U.S. are Black women. While this percentage is shockingly low, it is reflective of limited resources and the additional hardships Black women face as they attempt to enter the legal industry. By providing financial assistance, mentorship and resources, the Legally BLK Fund seeks to redefine the future of the legal profession by reducing some of the barriers of entry for Black women. Our mission is to provide Black women with the tools, knowledge and confidence to achieve their legal aspirations. Legally BLK Fund’s vision is that Black women have the opportunity to succeed in the law school application process and beyond.

I am excited to share that upon my graduation from Washington University in St. Louis, I will be attending Stanford Law School to pursue my legal education this fall. Additionally, I was selected as a 2024 SEO Law Fellow, and this summer, I will join Ropes & Gray LLP. The SEO (Sponsors for Educational Opportunity) Law Fellowship provides talented, incoming law students from underrepresented backgrounds the opportunity to work at top law firms before starting their 1L year. Thank you to the SEO Law Fellowship team! I look forward to joining an amazing cohort of people and learning from Ropes & Gray LLP this summer. Reflecting on my law school cycle as a first-generation college student and the first person in my family to pursue a legal education, the law school application process was daunting and challenging. However, I was fortunate enough to have an immense support system guiding me throughout the process. I want to thank all the amazing law students who took the time to speak with me about my application and answered my (many) questions about law school. Also, I want to thank my mentors, Dr. Luna and Dr. Esposito for their guidance as well as Holly Delaney for her support throughout my time at WashU. As well as the Sidley Austin LLP and Barnes & Thornburg LLP Prelaw Scholars teams, along with Talia Scott, Akiesha Anderson, J.D., MPA, and Legally BLK Fund, Inc. who were all a vital part of my success during this application process. Thank you to all the friends and faculty who have supported me during my time at WashU. Lastly, I want to send a special thank you to my mom for her unwavering belief in my ability to achieve anything I set my mind to - this would not have been possible without you!
