Each year, thousands of survivors across Cook County face legal challenges as they seek safety, housing stability, custody of their children, and financial independence—all while navigating a complex legal system. Legal Aid Chicago works to empower survivors of domestic violence, offering them the legal support and representation they need to rebuild their lives and achieve safety and stability for themselves and their families. Dennericka and fellow Team Leader Kate S. are joining forces under the electrifying direction of Program Director Judge Amy Hanley as they teach, lead, and inspire women trial lawyers from across the country. Last week, our Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) with UChicago Medicine was featured in an article published by The Trace, a non-profit newsroom that works to shed light on gun violence in America. In its first year of operation, our MLP (known as Recovery Legal Care) screened 366 patients. More than 97% had at least one health-harming legal need.
