Cocktails for a Cause is just two weeks away! This year’s event will feature food and drinks from That Brown Girl Cooks!, the latest news from Legal Voice, a keynote address from the brilliant J Mase III, and, of course, a professional photo booth (which we took full advantage of last year). Visit https://lnkd.in/eZpT6kRk to learn more and get tickets. Every contribution helps us stand strong across the Pacific Northwest.

We’re suing to block HB 121: a dangerous step backward for Montana. HB 121 bars transgender, intersex, and gender-nonconforming individuals from safely accessing public restrooms, shelters, and other facilities. Instead of protecting people, this law endangers those who are already most vulnerable. HB 121... ? Defines sex in a way that erases intersex & trans people. ? Lets individuals sue public facilities for allowing trans people to exist. ? Forces trans Montanans to choose between safety & basic necessities. This isn’t about safety—it’s about fearmongering and discrimination. We won’t stand by as our neighbors, friends, and family are excluded from public life. Take action! Speak out against HB 121 and stand up for equality. Share this post and follow us and ACLU of Montana for updates. Learn more about our new case: https://lnkd.in/gGQpe2hq

Today, the Montana House unanimously voted "yes" on HB 475! The bill restricts the unnecessary, traumatizing, and medically hazardous practice of shackling inmates who are giving birth. We'd like to extend a HUGE thank you to Rep. James Reavis, Stacey Anderson, Catalyst Montana, the Montana Innocence Project, Forward Montana, and the Montana Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence (MCADSV). Please consider taking a moment to call 406-444-4800 and thank your representative for their support. Pictured left to right in photo below: Rep. Reavis, the bill's sponsor; Robin Turner, Legal Voice's Montana staff attorney; and Stacey Anderson, lobbyist for ACOG Montana.

This legislative session, Legal Voice's Robin Turner and Mariel Vander Schuur are fighting tirelessly against a wave of anti-transgender bills. Lawmakers are trying to criminalize gender-affirming care for youth, exclude transgender women from sports, sanction misgendering at work and school, and block transgender people from using restrooms and other public spaces that align with their gender identity. These attacks on the rights and dignity of transgender people go against the Montana Constitution, medical consensus, and basic human decency. But, as advocate SK Rossi said in a recent legislative hearing, "It doesn’t matter what you do in these rooms, trans and nonbinary people are going to continue to exist.” Transgender people deserve to live openly, safely, and with dignity. We stand with them. ?? #mtleg
