Join our team: Staff Attorney (4), Eviction Protection Project – Central, Eastern, Southern, and Western Arkansas. Legal Aid has four open positions for mission-oriented attorneys to have an immediate and profound impact on housing in Arkansas by focusing on eviction mitigation, education, and defense. Positions may be in Little Rock, El Dorado, West Memphis, Hot Springs, Pine Bluff, Fort Smith, Jonesboro, or other communities yet to be determined. The Eviction Protection Litigation attorneys provide services to tenants with low incomes who are at risk of losing their housing, working closely with Legal Aid’s statewide Housing Practice/Fair Housing Groups. Frequent travel related to work activities is required and some occasional evening or weekend time to attend training, meetings, or outreach activities. AR Legal Aid in the News: SPRINGDALE, Ark. — The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded Legal Aid of Arkansas, a nonprofit law firm in Springdale, a $2.1 million grant. The organization supports low-income Arkansans with free civil legal services across different areas. "With this grant, we'll be able to provide a number of services statewide," Samantha Doss, a staff attorney with Legal Aid, said. "We're hoping to serve more than 700 Arkansans in a two-year period and their families here locally in Springdale. We'll be able to provide direct representation to people who are facing threats of eviction." Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month: December 2024 Larissa Whittingham is Litigation Counsel for a non-profit, national trade association: the Retail Litigation Center. Larissa has experience as an in-house counsel in Arkansas and in private practice doing labor and employment work and commercial litigation in Missouri. She is the mother of three children and a firm believer in the importance of lawyers using their expertise to improve their communities. Larissa encourages Arkansas lawyers to take seriously the aspiration of Professional Rule 6.1 to provide at least 50 hours of pro bono legal services per year.
