Behind seemingly routine family law matters – custody disputes, restraining orders, child safety – often lie complex crises that can trap families in poverty. A legal aid attorney at Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse, Inc. (CASDA) stepped in when "Sarah" faced losing access to her children amid her former partners' violence and substance abuse. See how civil legal aid changed the trajectory for her entire family. WisTAF is proud to support CASDA with crucial grant funding. #OppositeOfPoverty #PovertyAwarenessMonth #CivilLegalAid https://lnkd.in/gj7xdAy7

To succeed in the workplace, you must know your rights. This was the knowledge “Martha” sought out when she reached out to Disability Rights Wisconsin. She knew that she needed more information to talk to her former employer about her termination caused by her epilepsy. Disability Rights Wisconsin worked closely with Martha to make sure she was confident explaining her rights. With the skills and knowledge in her hands, she was prepared for a lifetime of self-advocacy for this job and future steps in her career. Read Martha’s story as part of the #OppositeOfPoverty campaign during #PovertyAwareness Month: https://lnkd.in/gd2ZgpaW Disability Rights Wisconsin provides civil legal aid and support to make sure that people with disabilities know their rights in the workplace. By preparing them with knowledge and resources, people with disabilities can work towards a better system for all and fight poverty in their own lives.

Organizations are working hard to help domestic violence victims escape danger - after gigantic reductions in federal aid (a delayed effect of government actions several years ago.) Our colleagues at Judicare Legal Aid and Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc. do a great job raising awareness of this crucial issue in this WPR story. We fund legal assistance that empowers domestic violence victims to keep themselves safe, well, and financially stable, but we don't have reserves to offset the federal reduction. https://lnkd.in/g3-rFHHG
