Our own Laurie Busbee led her final Small Firm/Solo Practitioner Atlanta Bar section breakfast as chair this morning. She ended her term with a robust discussion about the impact of AI and the legal disputes that have arisen so far. She is shown here with Georgia Tech. E.E., Tech Entrepreneur and co-founder of Founders Legal, Yuri Eliezer. His presentation titled, “Who owns it? Machine Learning, Generative AI, and Intellectual Property Rights” gave this group of local attorneys a lot to think and talk about.

We were so excited to hear that the Legal Services Campaign we attended last month helped raised $210,000 out of their goal of $252,000. New and increased Friends of Scouting contributions that reach the levels of $2,500+, $5,000+, $10,000+, and $25,000+ qualify for the H. Bruce McEver Challenge. New gifts at these levels are matched 100% while upgraded gifts are matched 100% of the additional gift amount. In 2023: ·????20,389 youth were able to experience the life-changing skills that the Scout program teaches. ·????Over 6,100 Scouts attended one of our three Atlanta-area camps: Bert Adams Scout Camp, Woodruff Scout Camp, and Allatoona Aquatics Base. ·????554 young men and women achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. ?

Georgia homeowners: Did you transfer an interest in real property you own in 2023? If you did and this property is your primary residence, you may need to re-apply for the homestead (or other) exemptions.? You may need to re-apply regardless of whether you transferred this interest simply to add your spouse to the deed for your home, or whether you simply updated the language on a deed without changing the owner(s). Additionally, if you transferred an interest in real property to a Revocable Trust, and the beneficiary of the trust (which is potentially you) uses the property as a primary residence you may additionally need to file a special “Affidavit for Homestead Exemption Where Property is Owned by a Trust” to preserve the exemption. Any updates or applications for the Homestead exemption must be submitted by April 1st. You may be able to complete your updates online, but some counties require you to file in person or by mail. Contact your county to review their specific guidelines.

It was an honor to attend the Atlanta Area Council, Boys Scouts of America Patron/Legal Breakfast this morning. A big thanks to Henry Quillian of Taylor English Duma, LLP for inviting us to sit at his table. We are proud to support this vital organization for helping Atlanta’s girls and boys reach their full potential.

Our Chief Morale Officer made this year's Georgia Super Lawyers magazine. Two of our attorneys made the list again but this is Nola's first time.

Tammy Thomas, Fraud Investigator for Marcum, LLP presented “How To Protect Your Firm From Internal Fraud” at the February Sole Practitioner / Small Firm Section of the Atlanta Bar Thursday February 1st. She spoke to the group about processes a company can put in place to avoid internal fraud. ?Attorneys Roxanne Smithers and Natalie Elkins (pictured here) were among the attendees for this luncheon along with section chair and our attorney Laurie Busbee at Local Three.

February marks the 25th anniversary of our founder, Rebecca Cummings opening her first law firm and planted the seed for what would become Legacy Studio. We will be celebrating all year and highlighting some of the people who inspired our growth.
