    Working with amazing groups like HRA Council! We are on the education and collaboration committee. Raising awareness of how ICHRA benefits both employers and employees. States like Ohio are proposing legislation to help businesses get control of their health care spending and allow more people to get affordable health insurance. Ohio State won the national championship in football. ?? OH-IO The state of Ohio is winning, with a proposed bill from Meredith Craig creating a tax credit for small businesses. “By incentivizing employers to adopt ICHRAs, we can help reduce healthcare costs, enhance employee satisfaction, and ultimately incentivize more health care choice in the economy,” said Craig. Under this bill, a $400 tax credit per employee covered will be available to employers who:? Have 2-50 employees; Offer ICHRAs to all or some of their employees; and Contribute at least $400 per employee to the ICHRA in a taxable year.     Traditional Medicare vs. Medicare Advantage The big choice at the Medicare eligibility age of 65 is whether to enroll in traditional Medicare run by the federal government or in Medicare Advantage, which is run by private companies like Humana or UnitedHealthcare that contract with the government to provide Part A hospital coverage, Part B outpatient coverage, and often Part D drug coverage at no extra premium. Advantage comes with perks not included in traditional Medicare, like free gym memberships, transportation benefits, or limited dental and vision coverage. Yet some supplemental benefits have been curtailed this year as Medicare Advantage insurers such as?Humana and UnitedHealth Care struggle with rising costs. Even robust supplemental benefits shouldn’t be the primary consideration for Medicare enrollees. More important is access to doctors and care.?Medicare Advantage plans tend to limit doctor choice?through restrictive provider networks and can impose hurdles to care in the form of referrals and prior authorization requirements. If you select Medicare Advantage, it can be hard to return to traditional Medicare and buy a Medigap supplement plan. These policies are medically underwritten.     ICHRA is an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement. It is a group health plan that allows employers to set a predetermined monthly contribution for employees to select & purchase their health insurance. Employees select car and home/renters insurance. Why would they not want to choose their own personal health insurance, tailored to their needs? It really does make sense - if you're an employer and want to offer great benefits ICHRA is a strategy that has been working since it's launch in 2020.
