This #VeteransDay, we visit the Edwin M. Lee Apartments, the first building in San Francisco to combine supportive housing for both unhoused veterans and low-income families. This collaboration among LMSA, Saida + Sullivan Design Partners, Swords to Plowshares, and Chinatown Community Development Center supports an integrated, equitable, and sustainable community in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood.?Dedicated?to the late?mayor of San Francisco, the GreenPoint Rated Platinum rated Edwin M. Lee Apartments are an enduring tribute to his goal to end homelessness for veterans. This #affordablehousing development provides 62 apartments for formerly homeless #veterans and 57 apartments for low-income families with ground-floor services for families, veterans, neighbors, and the greater community. Balancing a civic scale with a feeling of home, the building enables sustainable lifestyles for its residents, prioritizing access to views and daylight, along with showcasing alternative energy generation and connections to nearby public transportation. The project frames a generous internal garden courtyard that balances a range of areas for retrospection, interaction and play. https://lnkd.in/gufTkuG Photos: Bruce Damonte

Proud to have collaborated with AIA California on continuing education content now available at aecKnowledge. I promise it's interesting! If you're a Berkeley grad, you should be proud of the institution's leadership in disabled rights and the passage of the ADA. Come learn more from me, Ryan Jang AIA, LEED AP, Benjamin Perez, and Caitlyn Clauson about designing for inclusion across abilities. https://lnkd.in/gNytSu6Q

We are gearing up and excited for the 2024 Monterey Design Conference! The Continuing Education sessions promise to be particularly good this year. See you there!
For all of you attending the 2024 Monterey Design Conference at Asilomar October 25-27 - it's going to be another wonderful weekend of excellent speakers from around the world and great conversations around the campfire. The Continuing Education sessions on Friday and Saturday will be particularly interesting this year, focusing on the integration of embodied carbon reduction within our evolving concepts of design excellence. There are many worthy sessions to choose from, but I'd like to especially recommend the following (please refer to the MDC program for more info): > Friday 10/25; 9-10AM, Fred Farr Forum: "Design for the Future: Integrating Climate Action and Social Response". Kira Gould, Hon AIA, and Lynn Simon, FAIA, ARUP, will lead an interactive panel discussion on resilient practice. > Friday 10/25; 10:15-11:15AM, Kiln: "Local and Resilient: Bio-Based Building in California", David Arkin, AIA, and Anni Tilt, AIA will discuss making the most with the least. > Friday 10/25; 11:30AM-12:30PM, Fred Farr Forum: "Levers of Decarbonization". AutoDesk Research's David Benjamin will present exciting recent innovations in carbon modeling and more. > Friday 10/25; 12:45-1:45PM, Fred Farr Forum: "Zero Carbon Design: What Really Matters and How to Get There". EHDD's Brad Jacobson, FAIA, will review latest developments in their impressive EPIC tool. > Saturday 10/26; 1:00-2:00PM, Fred Farr Forum: "Regenerative Timber Architecture", Thomas Robinson, founder of award-winning LEVER Architecture, will present their excellent mass timber architecture.
