HALL OF HEROES: LT. COL. CHARITY ADAMS Adams, a member of the Women’s Army Corps, served as the leader of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the largest unit of Black women to serve overseas during the war. These women delivered mail from the home front to troops in the European theater, processing an average of 65,000 pieces of mail per shift. Adams was the highest-ranking African-American woman in the army by the completion of the war. A monument honoring her was dedicated at Fort Lee, Virginia on November 30, 2018. Fort Gregg-Adams was renamed in honor of Adams and Lieutenant General Arthur J. Gregg in 2023, the first-ever U.S. military base bearing the names of African Americans.
Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a champion of equity and justice. At LNVB, we are inspired by his vision to create opportunities for all, especially for Veterans from underrepresented communities. Let’s continue the work of building a more inclusive future. #MLKDay #VeteranInclusion #EqualityForAll #LNVB2025"
