“Being open. A lot of the times that I’m with people who are like me, it’s a really nice and comfortable environment, but sometimes taking risks and being open to new things and listening to other perspectives teaches you parts of yourself that you might not have even recognized.” Here at LearnServe, we believe the Fellows program is so much more than what you do with your venture. Last Thursday, our Fellows DC program hosted a venture mentor session, offering Fellows personalized one-on-one coaching and guidance for their ventures. Several alumni joined us as mentors, helping current Fellows navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and plan their next steps!?

Rediate Kologek is a LearnServe alum (Fellows DC ‘22, Incubator ‘23) and Dyer Fellow at Lafayette College's The Dyer Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Through a nonprofit she started as a LearnServe Fellow, Rediate Love, she’s building a future free of poverty, with education and strong, supported families in Hidi Village, Ethiopia, where she was born. We sat down with Rediate to discuss her journey, her work, and her future goals. As a Dyer Fellow, Radiate is continuing to advance the venture she started in LearnServe while majoring in International affairs. After graduating, she’s interested in the Peace Corps, the World Bank, and other NGO work.

They’ll present solutions tackling pressing community challenges as they work towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. You won’t want to miss it!

Ethan Huang is a junior at Sidwell Friends School and an alum of our Fellows DC ‘24 cohort. Over the summer of 2024, he, along with friends and peers, launched an intergenerational initiative called the Inkstone Project. The project connects youth with elders to interview them and learn about their personal histories. The project, which began at the Chinese Cultural and Community Service Center, is now expanding to other senior centers and states. We sat down with Ethan to revisit his Fellows experience and explore how the skills he developed then have flourished into this impactful new venture.
