The What Works Hub for Global Education Tanzania team engaged in an energetic two-day Theory of Change workshop in Dar es Salaam ???? , articulating shared goals aligned with government priorities around teacher workforce management, pre and in service training, and rollout of revised curriculum towards improvements in learning outcomes. The workshop brought together Hub collaborators from Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE), University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Georgetown University, EdTech Hub, The Learning Generation Initiative, British Council, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.

Last month in Makeni, Sierra Leone, we conducted a District Director training focused on the new school leader guidelines and the secondary headteacher recruitment process that LGI has developed with the Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission. The session, organized by the Teaching Service Commission and facilitated by Miriam Mason on behalf of LGI, was highly practical, giving District Directors the opportunity to practice using new templates and tools, role-play scenarios like reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and scoring candidates to strengthen their ability to implement the guidelines, particularly in the recruitment process. In addition to the hands-on activities, we explored crucial initiatives to support women in leadership, with strategies to strengthen the pipeline of female school leaders. Participants actively engaged with the challenges and opportunities in school leadership, discussing ways to improve HR processes and enhance teacher development. ?? Transformative Teaching & Learning: High Touch High Tech (HTHT) in Uruguay ???? From 2021 to 2024, CEIBAL and Education Commission Asia (ECA), funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, partnered to enhance teaching practices in 5th-grade math and 7th-grade computational thinking. Using innovative digital tools like Matific and RoboGarden, the HTHT project empowered teachers and significantly improved student outcomes. Key impacts: ? Over 10,000 students and 263 teachers across 249 schools benefited. ? Math students using HTHT tools showed a 0.33 SD improvement in achievement, with higher gains among those completing more digital activities. ? Computational thinking students improved by 0.23 SD with increased engagement on RoboGarden. ? HTHT fostered higher-order thinking skills and personalized learning, helping both students and teachers thrive in the classroom. Amy Bellinger, The Learning Generation Initiative's Director of Programs, is?moderating a panel and workshop on financing of school meals, Hélène Gourichon Koziel is also attending to discuss school meals financing strategies with countries in ASEAN. Transforming System Leadership: Together with PwC Ghana and Research Trust Limited, we’re supporting the Ghana Education Service to implement a new organisational structure that includes leadership at all levels in the system. Our role as a learning partner has included leading learning cycles that capture key lessons, guiding ongoing adaptations throughout the implementation.
