The NAEP, The Nation's Report Card data release shows troubling declines in reading and math, yet nearly 9 in 10 parents believe their child is on grade level. This disconnect is understandable given the majority report their kids are getting Bs or better. Parents can't help solve a problem they don't know exists. This?is a clear call to action for schools and districts to prioritize family engagement practices grounded in trust, and focused on student learning. This includes providing multiple measures of data so families can take the actions needed to best support their children's learning. https://shorturl.at/w5x1u

As the former Secretary of Education under President Bush (and my former boss), appreciate Margaret pointing out what is really at stake with the call to shut down the department.
Many Americans–including this American–have a lot of questions about President Trump's executive order to dismantle the Department of Education. I know how important?local control of education is, but the federal government also plays a crucial?role by?ensuring equitable access to quality education across all states. The department manages Pell grants and enforces civil rights protections among other key responsibilities, which are vital to maintaining educational standards nationwide. The White House says funding for major programs will continue but taxpayers deserve to know what type of return they are going to get on their investment in education. I talked about what’s at stake in this debate in several interviews late last week, which you can see here (https://lnkd.in/eYQStr82) and here (https://lnkd.in/ep3rhNUb), and raised some important questions. What questions do you have about the president’s executive order?

While some schools may not have spring conferences, it’s important to have end-of-year conversations with families to help make a plan for summer learning based on what needs a student has. According to our research with Gallup, 79% of parents say their kids get B’s or better. But according to NAEP, The Nation's Report Card, only 30% of students demonstrate proficiency or above in math and reading. Get resources, tools, and tips at GoBeyondGrades.org? #GoBeyondGrades

In Kansas City, Kansas, Naomi Tolentino is transforming the fight against chronic absenteeism by focusing on individual student relationships. As the Coordinator of Student Support Programs, she leads the "Attend to Achieve" initiative, shifting from punitive measures to preventive strategies. School attendance teams go further for students with higher levels of absences. For students with “moderate†levels of absenteeism—those who’ve missed 10-19 percent of school days—attendance teams use strategies like “relationship mapping†to ensure they have a connection with at least one trusted adult.
