Yesterday, our Math CAN had an amazing hands-on icebreaker with an activity led by L4L’s Bright Spot STE(A)M Truck! We dove into a fun and challenging project: building paper cellphone holders. This activity not only sparked creativity but also gave us a chance to step into the shoes of the students we serve, embracing productive struggle, teamwork, and a little friendly competition along the way. The process was both fun and rewarding, showing how engaging STEAM activities can bring out the best in problem-solving skills and innovation. Huge thanks to Merinda Baker for leading us through this exciting experience! ?? Let's continue to make learning dynamic, interactive, and inspiring for all!

Despite the uncertainty of the world around us, one thing is CERTAIN: students across Metro Atlanta and every corner of this country are getting ready to launch into adulthood and looking to the adults in their lives to help them take those next steps. That's why, I'm excited OneGoal Metro Atlanta will be hosting our 4th Annual Student Summit this Friday at Clayton State, focused on *career exposure*. With over *500* students in attendance, 100+ community members will be there to volunteer, host career panels and host workshops on topics like: Careers AI, Careers in Sports, Aviation, Healthcare, Skilled Trades, the Film Industry, Law, Politics and more. There will be music, there will likely be dancing, there will be learning, and there will be JOY. The team does a beautiful job of hosting a well-organized and intentional 90-minute meeting focused on topics in the areas of mathematics, literacy, or post-secondary that will make a sustainable impact on education. L4L joined ~70 other collective impact partnerships for StriveTogether's convening last month. We love learning from folks who are also working with their communities to improve cradle to career outcomes for traditionally underserved students. Here's what we're still thinking about... - Intergenerational governance structures and authentically sharing decision-making with youth - The power of our personal narratives in the work we do - How our school systems might transform alongside the rapidly changing demographics in the US And it was an absolute joy to share what we've been learning about supporting school leaders and building positive school culture to retain teachers through our RETAIN cohort in partnership with GLISI!

Hearing community leaders affirm that the work of #RETAIN is a model that meets an urgent and deeply important need in communities across the nation - plus news this week of multi-year support for this work from a new funder ???????????? - has me energized to get back to ATL and WORK (with enough extra oomph to build an ark as needed)! The new league year has officially kicked off with the The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. Fall General Membership Meeting taking place yesterday evening. The leadership shared with us details about the league's strategic plan. We also discussed the issue that the league will prioritize, which is literacy with our Every Child Reads campaign. We also had an amazing panel discussion with community leaders such as Rebecca Parshall, PhD whose organizations are doing impactful work in literacy. It was great to connect with some of my favorites in the league and meet new JLA members. I am looking forward to another great league year.
