关于我们
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. We do not support or oppose any political party or any candidate. We do, however, take action on selected government issues in the public interest. We operate on a set of principles using our visions, beliefs, and intentions. The League welcomes people of all genders and gender identities. The League works at the local, regional, state and national levels, paralleling the levels of government (this is the site for the California state League). We have over 65 local League organizations within California and are growing. Members of one level of organization are also members at the local, regional, state and national levels.

Yesterday, our Trudy Schafer Public Policy Fellow, Chynell Freeman, joined forces in Sacramento with Thanh Tran with the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Mike Whyte, and Ricky from Pillars of the Community. They were advocating for AB 544, a bill to provide grants for improving voter participation in jails. This is a great example of what it means to work in policy for the League of Women Voters of California (LWVC). We advocate for changes that make a real difference in our communities, ensuring everyone has a voice in our democracy. If this kind of impactful work inspires you, we have an amazing opportunity! The LWVC is hiring for a Public Policy and Organizing Manager. If you're passionate about empowering voters and defending democracy, we encourage you to apply. In 2012, Sandra Fluke testified to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee on women's health and contraception. She explained, “Just as we students have faced financial, emotional, and medical burdens as a result, employees at religiously affiliated hospitals and universities across the country have suffered similar burdens.” After Sandra’s impactful testimony was picked up by news outlets, Rush Limbaugh degraded Sandra on his show, claiming that contraception coverage was akin to government subsidized sex, and notably calling her a prostitute and slut.? ? We don’t need to tell you that the anti-women hatred unearthed by Sandra’s testimony is alive and well today, as are emboldened efforts to suppress voters. Today, Sandra is the President of Voices for Progress and an attorney who specializes in policy and legislative advocacy, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her as our keynote speaker for this virtual event.? ? On Sunday, Sandra will reiterate the important role of California in the national attacks we see on Democracy. All democracy starts at home, and our work matters not only in California, but serves to demonstrate to every other state in this country that defending and reforming our democracy is possible and is worth fighting for.?? ? Tickets for this unique event are only $10, supporting the LWVC's advocacy efforts for a thriving and accessible democracy in California and beyond. Stand with the League.?Get your ticket today! https://lnkd.in/grVDUrv7
