Great post on the relationship between emotional intelligence and "productive endurance" ??

We like to talk about productivity on the day-to-day level. But what about macro productivity? What makes for a productive month? Year? Decade? This is a matter of “productive endurance.” And who better to learn from than Bob Dylan? Dylan has over 40 studio albums across 60 years. ?? Lesson 1: Know your purpose (or “destiny” as Dylan calls it), and hold it close. The lesson: Dylan knew from a young age that music was his purpose. He refers to music as his “destiny.” He even says he made a deal to devote himself to music in exchange for success. The EQ connection: Your purpose buoys you over negative emotions. When motivation and inspiration run low, purpose keeps you going. Dylan credits his late life productivity to that sense of destiny. Asked why he still tours and releases albums, he said, “It goes back to that destiny thing.” EQ strategy: Know your purpose. Revisit it often. ?? Lesson 2: Curiosity fuels decades of endurance. The lesson: Curiosity fuels DECADES of endurance. By following the work that genuinely interests him (not just pleasing fans), Dylan stays energized. The EQ connection: Certain emotions are the “yellow brick road” to productivity, so follow them. Curiosity especially can keep you from getting caught up in money & people-pleasing. EQ strategy: Follow what interests YOU, not what impresses others. ?? Lesson 3: Curiosity also fuels shorter-term endurance. The lesson: Short-term curiosity fuels project-level endurance. Dylan exercises this strategy album to album, following what interests him (not his fans). The EQ connection: Emotions like curiosity can fuel your energy. Just describing a past day when you were curious spikes your energy by 20%. EQ strategy: Reframe negative situations using curiosity. Ask yourself what’s interesting about the situation you’re in. TAKEAWAY EQ and long-term productivity are more linked than you might expect. New edition of our EQ Habits Newsletter: "How to Channel Anger as an Emotional Intelligence Strategy" ??

    查看Evan Watkins的档案,图片

EQ strategies, stories, & research | Author of Emotional Intelligence: 52 Strategies

If you Google “how to control your anger,” you’ll be met with a clean 1.2 million results. And 99.99% of what you read will reduce, reuse & recycle the same 5 boilerplate strategies: “Take a deep breath, count to ten, exercise, limit your caffeine intake, meditate,” and so on. But, imagine if instead of “controlling your anger,” you could use it to your advantage. What if you could channel your anger to improve your performance? The research indicates that you can. And that you should. Specifically, the research highlights three major ways anger can improve your performance: ?? 1/ Increase Persistence - angry participants outperformed others on an anagram test. The main reason was that angry participants spent more time trying to solve the task. ?? 2/ Enhance Focus - angry participants outperformed others in a skiing videogame. This was because their ability to focus was enhanced. ?? 3/ Trigger Action - a study looking at voting trends showed that angry people are much more likely to take action (i.e., vote, protest, speak up). ___ So HOW do you channel your anger? For a two-step strategy (drawing on examples from athletes, a radio host, and writers), read the full article from my EQ Habits Newsletter - https://lnkd.in/gCECmRTP
