关于我们
Lead to Read KC envisions a Kansas City where all students thrive academically and personally through unparalleled access to reading resources, mentorship, and support. Our mission is to make Kansas City the most literate city in the country by empowering students to become confident, capable readers through dedicated mentorship, focused tutoring, and broad access to high-quality books. Why? Only 20% of third graders in Kansas City public and charter schools are reading on grade level. (Source: Kansas City Action Fund) Reading is essential — not just for success in school, but for life. When children have trouble learning to read, it can kick off a devastating downward spiral. Poor reading skills make it hard to keep up in other subject areas. Struggling readers are more likely to report feeling lonely, angry, anxious and depressed. And, they're more likely to have behavior problems, end up in the juvenile justice system and drop out of school. Partner with us to help Kansas City children build a brighter future.

Lead to Read KC was proud to take home TWO Gold Awards in the categories of Fundraising Campaign and Medium-Length Video at last night's Philly Awards! The reception hosted by Nonprofit Connect with emcee Hartzell Gray was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the incredible storytelling Angela Pritchett and Linda Waterborg, our communications team, does year-round. A special congratulations and thank you to Stellar Image Studios, whose beautiful portrayal of Mauricio's story inspired us all! Watch it now at https://lnkd.in/gAe2NreQ.

It's National Young Readers Week! ???? This annual celebration aims to inspire a love of reading in children, and there's no better way to do that than by reading with them regularly. These fabulous mentors who read each week at Académie Lafayette, Garfield Elementary, Primitivo Garcia Elementary and Hogan Preparatory Academy are just a sample of the dedicated volunteer base that powers our Reading Mentoring program. It's a fun, rewarding experience with tangible results, and we're ready to bring this joy to students at three new schools in January! Apply today at leadtoreadkc.org/volunteer to read with a student at KIPP KC, Truman Elementary School (Hickman Mills School District) or Foreign Language Academy (no foreign language skills required). Bailey Carr, DiAnn Hall-Lewis, Alyssa Broadus, Langston Jones, Bill Taft, Cheryl Minor, Kimberly Bolin, Rafael Edwin

HOK is a great example of corporate leaders investing in early literacy and the future of Kansas City. In addition to providing financial support for Lead to Read KC programs, they collect new/like-new children's books and encourage team members to donate their time as Reading Mentors at nearby Phillis Wheatley Elementary. Thank you for your commitment to our mission! cc: Macrina Abdouch, Sarah Godfrey, Linda L., Andrea Zawodny, CSI, CDT, CCS, CCCA, LEED AP, Natalie Pearson (not pictured)
