We strongly concur with the words of Fran?oise Moudouthe, CEO of African Women's Development Fund (AWDF) member of the Leading from the South consortium at the opening session of the 69th Commission of the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations headquarters last week. “Every funding cut translates into real harm, a girl forced out of school and into marriage, a survival of violence left of nowhere to go, a pregnant woman denied life saving healthcare, a human rights defender intimidated or even killed. We must immediately commit to protect gender equality, not with words, but with resources. Fran?oise' message is an echo, a collective chant rising and calling for empathy and justice in times when the denial of the human rights directly impacts the daily lives of women, girls and gender diverse communities across the globe. #CSW69 #FeministFunding Watch more on the opening ?? https://lnkd.in/e59brJ9M Video courtesy of UN Web TV

At the opening session of #CSW69,?our CEO, Francoise Moudouthe,?delivered a powerful speech celebrating the commitment and incredible impact of women's rights and feminist movements over the past 30 years since the Beijing Platform for Action despite facing chronic underfunding. In her statement, she called for urgent, sustained and flexible investment to sustain the movement. "We must immediately commit to protecting not just gender equality but, really, gender justice for all - not with words, but with resources. Governments, international organisations, and private and corporate philanthropy - including in the Global South - must urgently invest significant, sustained, and flexible funding to women’s rights organisations, directly or through feminist funds." Francoise Moudouthe This speech echoes our strong belief that gender justice demands more than words, it demands resources. Last year, The #Gambia faced a critical moment when attempts were made to repeal the anti-FGM bill enacted in 2015. While the failure of this repeal offers a glimmer of hope, it also exposes the fragility of progress, especially in the face of rising anti-rights movements. In 2025, FGM remains a persistent challenge, with girls continuing to be at risk of this harmful practice. Organisations like GAMCOTRAP lead transformative work in communities to #EndFGM, challenging deeply entrenched harmful traditions and advocating for girls' and women's rights. Their frontline efforts demonstrate the power of local activism in creating sustainable social change. Learn more about GAMCOTRAP's work ? https://bit.ly/3Q6NKgQ #United2EndFGM

What sets Leading from the South (LFS) apart in core organisational funding? ?? ?? At Leading from the South, we believe core funding is the foundation for building long-term sustainability. By channeling this type of funding, we empower our grantee partners to strengthen their organisations, paving the way for greater independence and autonomy. Our approach embraces the vision of a localised and decolonised funding model—one that’s adaptable, inclusive, and responsive to the unique realities of our grantee partners and the communities they serve. ??? Recently, at our Linking and Learning convening, we heard inspiring reflections from our partners about what makes LFS’s approach to core funding stand out. Today, we’re excited to share insights from Bhanumati Kalluri of the Dhaatri organisation, from the city of Secunderabad in India. Stay tuned as we spotlight more stories from our partners and explore how LFS’s southern-led grantmaking model drives multiregional impact! ?? #LeadingFromTheSouth?#GlobalSouthFeminists?#FundWomensFunds?#SustainableChange
