关于我们
Leading on Opportunity was formed as a result of a recommendation made by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force that convened to study the issues of economic mobility in Charlotte. The 19-member Council, chaired by James E. Ford and Andrea Smith, brings together a representative group of Charlotte-Mecklenburg leaders spanning a range of disciplines and backgrounds – grassroots, government, neighborhood, business, philanthropy, faith, and nonprofit. The mission of Leading on Opportunity is to convene and connect sectors across the community to implement the recommendations of the Task Force to improve economic mobility in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. As charged in the report, the organization will take a systemic approach to addressing the key determinants of early childhood education, college and career readiness, and family stability, while simultaneously focusing on the cross-cutting factors of segregation and social capital.

Leading on Opportunity is focused on leveraging data to align funding and strategy to create impact. We’re honored to be mentioned in league with gamechangers like Brian Collier, Erin Barbee, Victoria Watlington, PhD, PE, PMP and DreamKey Partners, an organization that is doing the work to create housing and wealth-building opportunities that change lives.

Always great to see team members engage with their alma maters! Check out what AJ Calhoun was up to last week engaging with Winterim group students!
Alumni AJ Calhoun '11 spoke to upper school students in the Winterim group, Charlotte Cultural Experience, about the history of Charlotte, focusing on the effects of displacement and urban renewal. He shared insights into his work at Leading on Opportunity, which aims to tackle some of the enduring challenges that hinder those in poverty from breaking the cycle. Mr. Calhoun also addressed how we, as a Christian community, can respond by participating in a unified effort to be informed and assist others in need. ????? Through the Charlotte Cultural Experience, a group of over 30 students is diving into the vibrant cultural heritage, diverse neighborhoods, and fascinating history that make the Queen City an amazing place to live. This Winterim experience is led by Jozi Walker, Director of Diversity, Belonging, and Global Awareness, alongside Russell McMullen, Upper School History Teacher. #ccsKnights #ccsWinterim #Charlotte #QueenCity

Public transportation is crucial for economic mobility because it provides affordable access to employment opportunities, education, healthcare, and other essential services, allowing people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds to participate fully in the workforce and contribute to the economy, especially those who may not have access to a personal vehicle; essentially, it enables individuals to reach jobs and opportunities beyond their immediate neighborhood. ??https://lnkd.in/eHcX85Bb We are so excited for our very own Tonya Jameson and her participation with the Public Transit Advisory Group! ????? #EconomicMobility #Charlotte #PublicTransit
