Carnegie R1 Research status! UVM has joined the ranks of the nation’s top-tier research institutions! This achievement is reserved for universities with the highest levels of research activity and reflects decades of commitment to innovative research and excellence. In the past fiscal year alone, UVM attracted over $260 million in extramural funding—more than doubling our annual research funding in the last five years! The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont has been a cornerstone for UVM’s research initiatives, securing over $100 million for life-saving projects. Recent breakthroughs include: ? Development of an effective antibody drug to combat RSV ? Creation of the world’s first self-replication living robots, Xenobots ? Mapping the brain of a fruit fly, an effort that will lead to better understanding of the human brain, led by a consortium from UVM, Princeton and Cambridge ? Clinical study testing, through UVM’s Vaccine Testing Center, to develop a Lyme disease vaccine ? Development of a new therapy for mesothelioma cancer at the UVM Cancer Center (in its Phase 2 clinical study) A result of the hard work and commitment of our faculty, staff, and students, achieving R1 status will increase UVM’s opportunities for new research, funding, and recruitment of top talent.
