Celebrating a true leader, mentor, and friend – Greg Pryor! The 2025 People Analytics Network Census has recognized Greg as a Top 3 Mentorship Influencer and a Top 3 Networking Influencer, and I can’t think of anyone more fitting or deserving of this honor. Greg and I first connected years ago at The Leadership Forum at Silver Bay, and from our very first conversation, he has been a guiding force in my career. His mentorship has shaped how I lead, and his generosity in opening doors has expanded my network in ways that continue to impact my life and work. Greg doesn't just give advice—he invests in people. He listens deeply, challenges thoughtfully, and helps you see possibilities beyond what you imagined. And beyond that, he connects you to others who can help you grow. I know I’m just one of many who can say their career—and their life—has been better because of Greg. This recognition from the People Analytics Network Census is simply a reflection of what so many of us already know: Greg leads with heart, vision, and an unmatched ability to energize others. Congratulations, Greg! You continue to inspire me and so many others. #Mentorship #Networking #PeopleAnalytics #Leadership #Gratitude #CareerGrowth

Rethinking Company Culture: Place Character Over Culture. This week’s HR Pioneer Blog considers the subject of company culture and how to approach the improvement of workplace environments better. The post is contributed by Mike Morrison, Ph.D., Chief Advisor, LeaderWorks, who founded the University of Toyota and has designed, developed, and managed dozens of leadership and culture development programs for industry leaders, including Nike, Toyota, Harley Davidson, Lexus, Span Alaska, MAS, Avery-Dennison, Netstock, and Johnson & Johnson. Mike builds a compelling case for balancing individual character with corporate values and cultures and the unintentional but often damaging side effects of the over-conformity demanded by those. The post defines the value that an emphasis on character brings to leadership, innovation, and enterprise adaptability. It illustrates how supporting and emphasizing character builds more resilient and robust cultures that leverage individual differences and perspectives for enhanced growth and interpersonal relationships at work. ???? • At LeaderWorks, we couldn't agree more with MIke's thoughts—character is foundational to exceptional leadership. Our Leadership Velocity Framework is built on this principle, emphasizing character, capabilities, and connections as the core drivers of leadership impact. By helping leaders cultivate purpose, integrity, and resilience, we enable them to build trust, spark innovation, lead with agility, and accelerate their performance. This shift toward prioritizing character over culture is transformative for organizations striving to adapt and excel in today’s dynamic environment.

Character matters most in a complex, chaotic and brutally uncertain world. The attached article link makes that case — revealing?how our work cultures can unwittingly promote conformity and even contribute to the chaos — whereas “character”?compels us to lead in the most purposeful ways. Most importantly I show how character can build the necessary bridges between a strong and purposeful “Me” and an equally strong and others-oriented “We” in our leadership ranks. I am honored to share this?article?@wowledge,?an expert-driven platform for strategic human resource practices and beyond. I would love your comments! • At LeaderWorks, we believe leadership isn’t just about moving—it’s about moving with purpose and impact. That’s velocity: creating value and driving results efficiently and sustainably. But disengagement stalls velocity. Traditional engagement strategies—like surveys and perks—create motion but don’t drive real progress. The key to unlocking true velocity lies in meaningful work. When employees see their work as purposeful and connected, they accelerate—innovating, collaborating, and delivering results that matter. In Clint Kofford’s latest blog on Wowledge, he explores why engagement is failing and how meaningful work can transform both employee experience and organizational outcomes. Let’s build workplaces where meaningful work fuels smarter, faster progress. At LeaderWorks, that’s the velocity we help you achieve.?

Is employee engagement failing—or are we asking the wrong questions? For years, organizations have poured resources into engagement initiatives, yet the results remain uninspiring. I'm far from the first person to have noticed this or written about it. And the data doesn’t lie: despite billions spent, global engagement levels barely move. What if the problem isn’t the idea of engagement, but the way we approach it? At its core, engagement shouldn’t be about squeezing more out of employees—it should be about creating workplaces where people feel they belong, their work matters, and their contributions align with a greater purpose, including making companies better and more competitive. Meaningful work isn’t a “nice-to-have”—it’s a game-changer. Research shows that employees who find meaning in their roles are not only more engaged but also more loyal and innovative. They stay longer, work smarter, and thrive. Isn’t that what every organization is striving for? I’ve shared some deeper thoughts on this shift—and how we can move from failing engagement strategies to thriving workplaces—in my latest blog post for Wowledge: Employee Engagement is Failing: How Meaningful Work Matters. This isn’t just about rethinking a strategy; it’s about reimagining the future of work. I’d love to hear your perspective: ?? What does meaningful work look like in your organization? ?? How do you foster purpose and belonging in a hybrid world? Let’s spark a conversation here—and if you’re curious, check out the blog for a deeper dive. https://lnkd.in/etKYR3kK Together, we can reframe the dialogue and create workplaces where engagement flourishes naturally.

A little over two years ago Richard Rosenow and I started talking about something bold and ambitious - what if we could map the global People Analytics community using a single Active Organizational Network Analysis? Today I’m thrilled and excited to announce the launch of the People Analytics Network Census (PANC) - a project that is designed to do just that! Richard and I have been joined by Matthew Diabes, PhD and Stephanie Murphy, Ph.D. as the core team behind the PANC. All four of us are committed to the overarching goal of the PANC - to use the power of networks and network science to map and understand the global People Analytics community and then to deliver actionable insights back to the community and the individuals in that community. Insights around the informal groups that exist and how those groups are connected to each other, the impact of career breaks on networks / careers, and parts of the global community that are feeling more or less connected to others…to highlight just a few areas of particular focus. So, if you are a People Analytics professional anywhere in the world (or someone that is closely connected to the People Analytics community such as at a vendor or working in academia) we are asking you to signup today via the link below to take part in the People Analytics Network Census: https://lnkd.in/gkQ7tUeR You will find more details about the PANC at the link above, including on why you should sign-up (hint: anyone who wants a personal network report will receive one). You will also find links to the PANC privacy policy and approach. Please read these important documents - the summary is that your data will not be used for marketing or any purpose other than the PANC but the details are at the site above and I would encourage you to get in touch with any member of the core team if you have any questions. All of us want this to be a community-driven project with real benefits for the community. I would like to give a big thank you to the individuals who have generously agreed to support the PANC by helping to get the word out: Al Adamsen, Alexis Fink, Amit Mohindra, Barry Swales, Brian Hackett, Cole Napper, David Green ????, Greg Pryor, Heather Whiteman, Ph.D., Ian OKeefe, Michael Arena, Michael M. Moon, PhD, Patrick Coolen, Stacia Sherman Garr and Stela Lupushor. I believe innovation isn’t just about gathering everyone in one place—it’s about leaders who know how to leverage their networks to drive impactful results. Bringing people back to the office won’t automatically spark creativity or collaboration. True breakthroughs happen when leaders set a 'collaboration mandate' that emphasizes intentional, purpose-driven interactions across their networks. This aligns with our approach at LeaderWorks, where we look at leadership comprehensively, focusing on how well leaders harness their connections to accelerate meaningful progress. Explore more about why companies need a collaboration-first mindset in this thought-provoking article by my good friend Michael Arena. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gEiXBu3G

Collaboration mandate - An office mandate won't improve innovation !! Dragging employees back to the office won’t magically spark innovation. Real progress doesn’t come from sitting at the same desks; it comes from strategic, purposeful collaboration. If companies want breakthroughs, they don’t need an office mandate—they need a?"collaboration mandate". We need to stop obsessing over where we work and start investing in practices that drive when and how we collaborate. Philip Arkcoll and I provide more detail in our latest article. https://lnkd.in/gEiXBu3G

Did you know that we can learn a lot from Post Malone and Dolly Pardon about the power of networks? Yeah, me neither until this phenomenal conversation with the one and only Greg Pryor. Greg just co-authored a book, “The Social Capital Imperative,” which aims to explain the power of social networks and make them more accessible to all parts of the organization. In this podcast, Greg explains how social capital—our connections and relationships—drives business outcomes, sparks innovation, and boosts career growth. With the pandemic reshaping work, he argues that shifting from internal networks to open, cross-functional ones is crucial for success today. Greg shares practical strategies for making network-building accessible to individuals, teams, and organizations. He highlights how AI and technology can help unlock the potential of networks, focusing on measurable outcomes. His passion for helping organizations harness the power of social networks makes a strong case for why networks matter in the modern workplace. You will especially want to listen to this episode if you want to learn: --Nine key use cases for network analysis, ranging from career growth to cultural change [2:40] --How the pandemic shifted networks from open to closed, impacting innovation [29:00] --How to build networks for career growth, even without organizational support [39:20] --How AI can make network analysis more accessible and actionable [44:18] Every conversation I have with Greg is both fun and incredibly informative. This one is no exception. Add it to your podcast feed today in all the places you get your podcasts. RedThread Research #podcasts2024

Meaningful work goes beyond just the tasks we perform. It’s about knowing that our contributions matter in a way that aligns with a higher purpose, something I explored deeply in my doctoral dissertation. People want their work to be a source of fulfillment, one that reflects their values and aspirations. This resonates with what I shared in an article with Fortune—leaders have a critical responsibility to cultivate environments where this meaning can thrive. Kenvue’s approach is a perfect example of what it means to intentionally shape a workplace culture that doesn’t just prioritize outcomes, but empowers individuals to grow, contribute, and feel truly connected to their work. This commitment to meaningful work is essential for organizational resilience and personal fulfillment alike. It’s the foundation for creating lasting leadership impact. Congratulations to Luani and the entire Kenvue team for this inspiring leadership in shaping a people-centered culture! #Leadership #MeaningfulWork #Impact #Empowerment #WorkCulture

At Kenvue, we’ve been very intentional shaping not just our culture, but the way in which we have designed our “People Function” as opposed to the traditional “Human Resources.” Why? Because we are in the business of empowering and inspiring our people to fulfill a higher purpose – so that they can answer the question: ‘What is going to be my impact here?’ ? People want to find meaning in their work, feel a sense of belonging in the workplace, feel that the work they do and the people they get to work with allows them to grow and contribute, and feel recognized and rewarded for their impact. ? I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: developing a culture doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, consistency, and it starts at the top. I am a product of how empowerment can profoundly impact people; somebody once decided to take a chance on me, and I invite all leaders to pay it forward and empower their teams, colleagues, and peers to fulfill their dreams and ambitions. #WeAreKenvue

Huge congratulations to my friend and colleague Greg Pryor for being featured in The Wall Street Journal with his insights on how we should leverage our network to truly connect and accelerate impact. Greg not only has a deep understanding of social capital, but he exemplifies it in his own leadership—always fostering generous, meaningful relationships that benefit those around him. At LeaderWorks, we know leadership velocity is fueled by strong connections, and Greg’s work is a true reflection of that principle. Check out the full article here:
