Today was our first College Fair at LPS! Principal Committee, a committee of students that represents their peers, wanted to bring this event to life after much student interest. They did a great job with the support of Juno Keisha Naranjo. Students learned about college opportunities they hadn’t explored or didn’t know existed before and walked away with new knowledge. LPS Hayward's class of 2025 has been working hard all year preparing for their post-secondary futures. We will be celebrating them in May with their families. Two years of hard work. One incredible team. Today, we celebrate a milestone. We officially moved from the Lower Tier to the Middle Tier in performance categories for charter school renewals — a testament to our collective dedication and belief in our students. (This is the link: https://lnkd.in/dEPtfdeY) In just two years, we: ?? Strengthened school culture, reflected in a 30% increase in Panorama survey data. ?? Reduced the overall suspension rate by 3%, from 7.7% to 4.7%, with an even greater impact for Black students, where suspensions dropped by 13.3%. ?? Built a strong, committed team, growing from a majority Edgenuity online classes to an in-house powerful faculty team with a 70% retention rate. ?? Increased the College/Career Indicator on the California Dashboard by 46.3%. This year, we focus on academic achievement: ?? Improved academic outcomes, with NWEA spring data showing about 76th percentile growth in Math and 63rd percentile growth in English. ?? Doubled the number of 11th graders meeting or exceeding standards in English on the CAASPP interim test. Joining this school two years ago has been a journey of growth and purpose. Month after month, I witnessed change — listening to students’ feedback, checking in with staff, and responding to our community’s needs. Slowly but surely, students began connecting with teachers and staff, and our school culture transformed. This shift is living proof of the heart and effort poured into our school by a team that came together during challenging times but shined as a family. ?? Career Day was amazing! It started with a financial workshop for seniors and a look at work based projects for other grades. Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to attend four different career panels and asked great questions to learn more about how to plan for that career in the future. "Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: How One Urban School Increased Their CCI by 42% in One Year!" ? "Scaling Social Capital Curriculum: Embedding Career Readiness within Advisory" (in collaboration with Career Launch). Alongside colleagues and a student, we shared how?Leadership Public Schools Oakland R&D?tackled barriers to internships by creating in-house?Work-Based Learning (WBL)?opportunities, integrating?Linked Learning, and building industry relationships to drive student success. I had the privilege of witnessing the incredible growth and passion of the LPS Soccer girls during my tenure as Security/Dean of Students. As they embark on their college decisions, I am filled with pride for their journey ahead. CME Security proudly sponsored parkas for the Lady Royals this season, and it was truly an honor to support such a dedicated team. Want to have fun while learning about pH balances, acidity and bases? Our chemistry students made salsa and had students and staff try it to determine which was best. Today we continued our anti-racist PD and had a deeper conversation about race, racism, power, and privilege. Every great partnership starts somewhere… Today we met with CSUEB to discuss a LPS Hayward agreement so that seniors will each receive a letter informing them that if they meet CSU admission requirements, they are guaranteed admission and are eligible to visit and preview the Hayward campus. For so many students, this opportunity can be a lifeline for them and their families to know college is possible for them. Senior Sunset: A Night to Remember ?????? Watching the sunset, sharing BBQ, and playing hide-and-seek in the very building that holds four years of memories—this night was pure magic! Huge gratitude to Chef Zeigenhorn and Chef Duarte for the delicious food, and to Ms. Marceli, Ms. Ximena, Ms. Emmy, Ms. Stef, and Ms. Sonson for making it all happen!
