One of the most powerful things a leader can do? Make others feel important. You do this by making people feel seen, heard and valued. When someone walks away from a conversation with you, do they feel important? Do they feel understood? Active listening is a great leadership skill that makes people feel heard and important. It’s a connection builder and how you build trust. When people feel understood, they show up differently with more engagement, creativity, and confidence. How are you helping those around you feel seen today?

Leadership isn’t limited to board meetings, strategy sessions, or formal roles. Some of the most impactful leadership happens right in our communities whether it be in conversations over coffee, at volunteer events, in showing up to support a local business or lending your voice at a town hall. When leaders step into their communities, everyone benefits. Communities feel seen and supported, small businesses thrive, new ideas are sparked, and meaningful change begins. But the impact isn’t one-sided because it transforms the individual, too. You don’t need a spotlight to make a difference. You just need to be willing to show up. So, where can you plug in this month? #LeadershipLeeCounty #LocalLeadership #LeeCounty #AlabamaLeadership #developingleaders #AuburnOpelika

Leadership lessons come from all kinds of experiences! Sometimes you learn from witnessing great leaders, and sometimes you learn what not to do from witnessing not-so-great leaders. Over the years, Ali Rauch, IOM has learned much from both types of leaders - how she does and doesn't want to lead. These ten lessons have become her foundation. They’re lived experiences that continue to shape how she leads, grows, and shows up for others. Which one resonates most with you? #LeadershipLeeCounty #LocalLeadership #LeeCounty #AlabamaLeadership #developingleaders #AuburnOpelika

The leadership class experienced that impact first-hand last week. They started off at the E.W Shell Fisheries Center where lunch was sponsored by Stone Martin Builders. Then heard a wonderful presentation at Rane Culinary Science Center from Caitlin Myers, Director of Community Engagement and Economic Development. A tour of Laurel Hotel and Spa, Alabama's first and only AAA Five Diamond Hotel, commenced afterward. The day was rounded out at Gogue Performing Arts Center with a presentation by AO Toursim. Our leadership program has 750+ graduates, and our alumni have gone on to make huge impacts in their community. We'll be reaching out to some alumni to see where they are now, what they're doing and how being a part of Leadership Lee County has shaped them as leaders. Our next Alumni Spotlight feature is Rosario Thomas. "I was honored to participate in the Leadership Lee County (LLC) program two years ago...Through LLC, I formed lasting connections and became part of a remarkable community. My decision to apply for LLC was driven by my desire to reconnect with my community after serving in the military and to enhance my leadership skills, enabling me to grow in my role at Southern Union State Community College. The program provided me with the opportunity to showcase my military leadership style during team-building exercises. The experiences and knowledge gained through LLC have been instrumental in strengthening my voice and commitment to serving those in need. Currently, I serve on the board of Village Friends of Auburn and as the Southern Representative for the Alabama Veterans Affairs Association. I have also obtained my Yoga Teacher Certification and teach yoga at the Yoga Room Auburn. The LLC network has been an invaluable resource, providing me with connections and information within the community whenever I need it."
