Did you know Carman Cullen is a Director on the Board of Regents of Leadership Lake County? Carman is a graduate of the great Leadership Lake Class of 1999. She is currently the Executive Director of The Education Foundation of Lake County, Inc. She will be retiring at the end of the year. She has been in Lake County for 29 years. When she retires she will be spending time with her husband, Eric and soon to be 12 grandchildren, reading great books, learning to play the piano and traveling. We will probably be seeing her at a lot of public meetings. Carman says, "Leadership Lake is an eye opening experience for even those that have lived in Lake County for their entire lives. You are exposed to social, cultural, occupational and economic factors that you would not normally be exposed to. In addition, if you are involved, you will form lifelong relationships with your classmates that will become invaluable in your future." A leader has a strong vision, passion and the understanding that a good leader’s main goal is to challenge the employees to reach their highest level of potential. Her advice to the Class of 2025 is to "LEAVE YOUR PHONES OFF!" She wants everyone to know she was a part of the greatest Leadership class ever, Class of 1999! Thank you, Carman! Board of Regent Spotlight- Michell Middleton- Director. Michell was as she put it "socially promoted" in the Class of 2019 and on the Green Team. She has lived in Lake County for 28 years. She is married to Harlow Middleton. She is a realtor. Michell loves to travel with her husband. They have visited 35 countries. She is enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren watching sporting events and riding rolling coasters. She is adrenaline junkie. She has bungee jumped twice and cage dove with Great White Sharks off Seal Island in South Africa. Michell believes in order to have a strong community you must dedicated and well informed leaders. Leadership Lake offers the education and networking necessary to become a leader. A characteristic of a good leader is communication which starts with good listening skills, integrity, enthusiasm, and decisiveness. Her advice for the Class of 2025 is "Enjoy each day and get to know your fellow classmates. They will become friends for life. Also stay involved with Leadership Lake once you graduate." Economic Development Day was a fascintating day. We visited Intellisteel and Kroger. We had speakers from City of Groveland, Lake County Economic Development, Lake 100, CareerSource, SBDC, USF Incubator, SouthLake Chamber of Commerce and LEAD. Class of 2025 learned more about leadership from all of the speakers and their classmates. This is going to be a great year. Class of 2025 had SIMSOC Monday and Tuesday at Florida Elks Youth Camp. Thank you to Jade and Lindsey to leading the class Monday. And to the Board of Regents and Caroline Maimone for helping with SIMSOC. Chuck Hiott and Mike Rankin cooked a delicious lunch. Class of 2024 had a great dinner for them and fun evening of games. The class was introduced to Leadership Lake and got to know each other better. Next is Economic Development Day on Thursday, November 14th. The agenda can be downloaded on our website. Next Board of Regent Spotlight is Proud member of the Leadership Lake's Outstanding Class of 2019 and Green team is our Treasurer- Rick Hankey. Rick is the CEO of LifeStream Behavioral Center. Rick says, "Leadership Lake County was an important part of my leadership development. Through participation, individuals learn about Lake County, increase their business network and are provided opportunities to learn and/or practice leadership skills. Leadership Lake County allows our leaders to meet individuals from different backgrounds and occupations that they may not normally encounter; adding to the rich experience." In his spare time he likes to spend time at the beach with his family. He is a kind person who brings a sense of humor and a good laugh to any room, even on the grayest of days. A good leader inspires trust, communicates effectively, is empathetic, decisive, visionary, adaptive and has integrity and strong ethical standards. His advice to the Class of 2025 is enjoy the experience as it goes by very quickly. Be excited for every class day as you will learn something new. Get to know everyone in your class as they will be valuable assets to your network. Be open to new ideas and continue to give back to Leadership Lake County through alumni participation and encouraging other to participate.
