Leadership Lake County FL

On the first day of Spring Class of 2025 had Agriculture Day. Cherry Lake Farms hosted our morning session. John Jackson and Class of 1992 Catherine Hanson gave us the history of agriculture in Lake County. Chloe from Cherry Lake gave us the history of Cherry Lake Farms and how their family has adapted the farm. Board of Regent and Class of 2021 Austin Spivey and Class of 2024 Caraline Jones lead the group on a tour of the farm. H&A Farms was the next stop. Ryan Atwood showed us the packaging plant and told us about the production of their fruit. We picked delicious blueberries then loaded the bus to Lake Jem Farms. Class of 2006 Jim Granger and Class of 2011 Jonathan Germeroth met us at one of the sod farms. Lake County Water Authority and Trout Lake Nature Center presented at Hickory Point where we learned about water quality and Trout Lake. We ended the day at UF/IFAS Extension Lake County. Dallas told us about trends in agriculture, their programs and 4-H. Helen then gave us a tour of the facility. We appreciate everyone participating in the day and we look forward to our next class- Human Services Day on Thursday, April 10th at South Lake Cares.
