How fun to see so many past and current Leadership Essentials and LE Women's Group participants, coaches, and facilitators at the Howard County Chamber's Women's Leadership Conference! Leadership Essentials 2025 continued last week with a new session on Conflict Management. LE alum Dannika Rynes (LE 2023) and Robin M. Stimson, MSW (LE 2024) kicked off the day with the Outside the Box icebreaker. Special thanks to Jeremy May, MAOL, ACC for leading an engaging session on Bridging Perspectives: Leading Through Conflict with the Curiosity Bridge. We explored our leadership lens, styles under stress, stages of psychological safety, and even practiced our coaching skills by seeking to understand, practicing active listening, acknowledging feelings, and navigating differences.

Leadership Essentials 2025 continued this week with our session on self-awareness. Special thanks to Lori Galen Fuchs and Kelly Mitchell, MS, SPHR, SHRM-SCP for guiding us through the results of our Strength Deployment Inventory. We examined what motivates us (people, performance, process, or a combination), how these motives change during conflict, and our strengths and overdone strengths. If you've taken the SDI, are you a blue, red, green, blend, or hub? How does being self-aware make YOU a better leader?

One of the core components of ASPIRE: Loyola's Center for Continuing Education's Leadership Essentials Program is to support local nonprofits through our Community Impact Projects. This week, the LE 2025 cohort spent the morning doing a little team building and explored the characteristics of high performing teams with facilitator Jyllian Clarke, PCC. In the afternoon, we heard presentations from the five nonprofit whose projects were selected by the CIP Committee, formed teams, and got to work! We're looking forward to working with The Arc of Howard County, Columbia Housing Center, Green Trust Alliance, Inc, Maryland Therapeutic Riding, Inc., and TasteWise Kids. Stay tuned to hear more about the impact these nonprofits are having in our community. A big thank you to our Community Impact Project Committee, chaired by LE 2016 alum Rochelle Jackson, CPM, RPA, for selecting the projects and serving as project liaisons.
