Meet new Leadership Broward Board Member Mike Adams, VP Finance for the Sun Sentinel Media Group. His first job was as an auditor for Deloitte & Touche. For Mike, Leadership Broward has enhanced his networking opportunities, improved his leadership skills, increased his community engagement, broadened his perspective on leadership and problem solving, and built his self-awareness and confidence. “A great leader encourages strategic thinking, innovation, and action,” he says. “The most important trait of a great leader to me is being a good listener.” Mike joined the Leadership Broward board to connect with Broward County leaders and help. One of the exceptional ways Leadership Broward helps each new class connect with each other and with the community is through the class community projects. Each LB class breaks out into groups and is partnered with a non-profit to bring a community project to life. Mike’s favorite Leadership Broward story is about his group’s community project. “I was part of Class 37 (So Good, So Good), and our community project focused on the Urban Farming Institute," Mike says. "We built new garden beds, installed an entrance sign, and created a small pond for members to enjoy. Our team was honored with both the judges' award and the class award, which resulted in a $5,000 donation to UFI.” Here's a little more about Mike: What is something no one or few people know about you: I still play ice hockey. Three words that describe you: Reliable. Loyal. Kind. Favorite sports team: Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Vikings Favorite visual artist: Andy Warhol Favorite musical performer: was Tom Petty What’s one of your guilty pleasures: chocolate chip ice cream Where would you like to go on vacation that you’ve never been: Italy Favorite city and why: My hometown of Chicago.
