Women's equality activist Lilly Ledbetter dedicated her life to fighting for pay equality and is a shining example of how #FearlesslyAuthentic leaders truly change the world. Ledbetter retired after working 19 years at a large corporation and then discovered her male counterparts in similar job roles were paid up to $2,000 more monthly for their work at the same company. She sued for backpay but hit a snag in the legal system due to a 180-day window filing restriction so she took the case to the Supreme Court. Although they ruled against her and she never received any settlement, she was a pioneer publicly shining a spotlight on pay disparity and fighting for women's rights. Her tireless work eventually lead to the Fair Pay Act in 2009 that made filing pay discrimination claims easier for future workers seeking justice. Ledbetter was also inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame and recognized with the Future Is Female Lifetime Achievement Award by Advertising Week. An incredible legacy, an incredible leader. In 2022, at their American locations, IKEA faced an unhappy worker crisis with a 22.4% quit rate that typically cost the company around $5,000 to replace per position. Fast forward 8 months later, that quit rate dropped to 17.5%. How did they do it so quickly? The company made swift adjustments to better support employees by offering higher pay, expanded parental leave benefits, subsidized childcare and even catered offerings to specific regions. They also started an internal Shift Project that allows team members to openly communicate with ease and adjust their availability.
