Yesterday afternoon, Le Roi Capital client MSN Air Service Inc. had the distinct pleasure of hosting Roxanne Persaud member of the New York State Senate for a Meet & Greet within its cargo handling facilities at JFK International Air Terminal Airport at The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. Senator Roxanne Persaud was elected to the State Senate in November 2015 after serving in the New York State Assembly.?Currently, she serves as the chair of the Social Services Committee, member of the Children and Families, Cities 1, Disabilities, Labor and Transportation Committees, and Joint Senate Task Force on Opioids, Addiction & Overdose Prevention.?She is also a member of the Women's Caucus, Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic Asian Caucus and the New York State Bipartisan Pro-Choice Legislative Caucus. Before becoming a legislator, Sen. Persaud’s career was in Higher Education Administration.?In addition, she is a longtime advocate for the community.?She served as President of the 69th Precinct Community Council in Canarsie, member of Community Board 18, and Commissioner on the New York City Districting Commission.?Additionally, she was a member of the Community Action Board of the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development and Chairperson of the Neighborhood Advisory Board - District 18.?She served on organizations highlighting domestic violence, cancer awareness, and other social and health issues. She is a graduate of the NYPD Citizens Police Academy and the New York City Office of Emergency Management-Community Emergency Response Team. Sen. Persaud is a dedicated public servant and consummate member of the community. Her interests stretches well beyond Brooklyn when it comes to helping others. She has traveled overseas on several occasions as a volunteer on medical and social outreach programs. In the Senate, Roxanne's legislative priorities for the district include safer communities, affordable housing, funding for schools and libraries, supportive services for youth and seniors, and quality healthcare.?She continues to sponsor legislation to combat gun violence, assist small businesses, and advance a robust social service agenda. Earlier this morning, MSN Air Service Inc. hosted New York State Assemblymember Alicia Hyndman for a guided tour and conversation on the grounds of JFK/The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. Economic Development and job creation are paramount for our local communities. Hyndman was elected to the New York State Assembly on November 3rd, 2015, in the 29th?AD, encompassing the neighborhoods of Laurelton, Rosedale, St. Albans, Addisleigh Park, Hollis, Springfield Gardens and Jamaica. The daughter of Caribbean immigrants, Assemblywoman Hyndman emigrated to the U.S. from London, England, as a young child. She spent her formative years growing up in Hollis & South Ozone Park attending public schools P.S. 34, I.S. 109, J.H.S. 226 & John Adams High School. Prior to being elected to the State Assembly, Ms. Hyndman served on the NYC Department of Education’s Community District Education Council 29 (CEC29) for ten years, the last four years as President. Leading advocacy for the 36 elementary and middle schools in the district, through collaborative leadership, she was able to bring in $30 million in capital funding for technology upgrades, facilities improvements, playground rehabilitation and other amenities to enhance the quality of education for students. Assemblywoman Hyndman’s professional career spans over fifteen years with the NYS Department of Education as a Senior Professional Conduct Investigator, overseeing adult trade and vocational schools. She previously held many positions in the fields of education, including but not limited to: Counselor for the Brooklyn College Educational Talent Search Program; Director of Minority Affairs at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of NYIT; and Assistant with the New York State Education Department Office of Higher Education. She was first elected in 2020. Phara is the daughter of Haitian immigrants and a lifelong resident of the 57th District. She is a proud product of Brooklyn’s public school system, attending Philippa Schuyler Middle School and Benjamin Banneker Academy for Community Development. She then went on to attend SUNY Geneseo, where she majored in international relations, before obtaining an associate’s nursing degree at CUNY City Tech and a BSN at CUNY School of Professional Studies. Before being elected to the Assembly, Phara worked as a maternal child field nurse, caring for new mothers after they gave birth. In addition to her work as a nurse, Phara was president of her building’s tenant association before running for office. Tenant organizing, in particular the fight to pass the Housing Stability & Tenant Protection Act of 2019, was a major motivating force in her decision to run for office and stand up for tenants like her across the state. Since being elected, she has continued to champion the rights of tenants, as well as expanding access to healthcare and reforms to the carceral system. In her first term, she passed the Less Is More Act, which made the state’s supervision system more just and equitable. She believes that working-class New Yorkers deserve stable housing, affordable healthcare, and the resources to pursue a good life.
