Anchor member ?rsted and U.S. utility Salt River Project have begun operations of their 600 MW combined #solar and #battery storage project in Pinal County, Arizona. Located south of Phoenix, the Eleven Mile Solar Center represents a $1 billion investment by ?rsted in #clean energy for the state. The?facility?has the capacity to store up to 1,200 MWh of power, enough to supply #renewable energy to 65,000 U.S. homes. The centre will provide power to businesses,?residences?and Meta’s planned data centre in Mesa, Arizona. Meta signed a power purchase agreement last year to secure the majority of the power generated from the project. “Arizona has one of the highest growth rates of electricity in the country due to the surge in data centres and the reshoring of American manufacturing. With our first project in Arizona now complete, we’re excited to help meet the growing demand of the state and region with reliable, domestic energy,” said David Hardy, ?rsted Americas CEO. The UK Government has published its response to its consultation on?Designing a policy framework to enable investment in long duration electricity storage. The response confirms that the UK will proceed with a “Cap and Floor” mechanism for #LDES in Great Britain, that the mechanism will have two “tracks” for more and less mature technology respectively, and that the scheme will be administered by the #energy regulator Ofgem. The scheme will not have a defined target but will set an indicative range for each round. Applications for the first round of contracts are expected in 2025. ? Commenting on the publication, Director of Policy and Partnerships Alex Campbell said, “The LDES Council welcomes the UK’s confirmation that it will introduce a Cap and Floor mechanism to support LDES in Great Britain. LDES will play a vital role in helping the new British government deliver its ambitious net zero targets for 2030 and beyond. Member Form Energy has raised $405 million, bringing its total funding to over $1.2 billion to accelerate the manufacturing of its 100-hour iron-air batteries at its Weirton, West Virginia facility. ? The company has completed construction of the 550,000-square-foot Form Factory 1 and has initiated trial production of its iron-air batteries. By 2028, the facility is expected to exceed 1 million square feet, with an annual production capacity of 500 megawatts of #energy storage annually. Stanwell Corporation Limited aims to purchase 1,010MWh of stored energy through anchor member Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners' Supernode battery energy storage system project in Queensland, Australia. Stanwell, a power company owned by the #Queensland government, seeks to secure a 15-year agreement with Quinbrook to cover the entire capacity of Stage 3 of the Supernode project. Quinbrook’s?Supernode?combines a low-carbon data centre complex powered by locally generated #renewable energy with large-scale battery energy storage systems. Situated within the central node of Queensland's electricity network, where an estimated 80% of the state's traded electricity flows daily, the project is planned to encompass 750?MW across three stages, with Quinbrook indicating that output could expand to 2,000?MW. As part of Stanwell’s strategy to integrate 5?GWh of #energy storage into its resource mix, the company has acquired a 4GWh pumped #hydro energy storage development and is negotiating a long-term deal for just over 1GWh of #battery storage. Member Sage Geosystems Inc. has expanded its collaboration with the United States Department of Defense (DOD) to lead geothermal project development at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas.
