Part of the Bowman Sustainable Land Development Program at Virginia Tech
关于我们
LDDI is a collaborative effort of the Via Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech with industry practitioners. The three primary objectives of LDDI are: (1) Improving land development design education, including increasing student awareness of land development design as a career path (2) Increasing interaction between practitioners and undergraduate civil engineering students at Virginia Tech (3) Enhancing research efforts in the land development area The Initiative has made significant strides to improve land development design education at Virginia Tech and to increase student awareness of land development design as a career path. The Initiative also promotes the interaction between students and practitioners. LDDI now involves more than 170 engineering and land development firms, many of which provide financial support. Virginia Tech also offers a M.S. in Civil Engineering degree focused in Sustainable Land Development. The Sustainable Land Development Graduate Program at Virginia Tech offers interdisciplinary training and research opportunities to advance sustainable land development. Students in our graduate program work closely with our faculty and industry partners. The program is built for customized learning, where students learn to apply principles of sustainability and engineering design to meet community, regional, and global societal needs.

The Town of Cornelius, North Carolina, recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new tennis and pickleball court complex at Bailey Road Park. Town officials celebrated the occasion by giving a ceremonial first serve with golden tennis rackets and pickleball paddles. The expansion to the existing park will be completed in two phases. Phase one of the project will include six new tennis courts, the conversion of three existing tennis courts into ten pickleball courts, and a parking lot expansion. Additionally, the project includes a new sand filter best management practice used to treat stormwater that runs off from the parking lots and tennis courts, including removal of phosphorous and nitrogen that gets collected in the stormwater from paved areas. Phase two of the project will include six additional tennis courts, a new restroom building, shade structures and bleachers, and additional parking. Our firm is proud to provide surveying, professional engineering, and landscape architecture to prepare cost estimates and feasibility studies, design and permitting of construction drawings, bidding support, and construction observation services for the project! #Charlotte #CommunityFacilities?

It's PANDAmonium! The pandas, Bao Li and Qing Bao have finally arrived at the DC National Zoo ?? Gordon and GordonDC provided survey and engineering services for the Asia Trail which links the Giant Panda Habitat with the habitats of other animals such as sloth bears, cranes, and elephants. #pandas #washingtondc #dc #pandamonium #engineering #surveying #gordon
A bear-y special delivery! Two Giant Pandas arrived at our Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute yesterday and are settling into their new homes at the David M. Rubenstein Family Giant Panda Habitat. Shown here is male Bao Li. In Mandarin Chinese, "Bao" means 'precious' and 'treasure'. "Li" refers to vitality and strength. Put together, "Bao Li" means an active and vital power. Bao Li was born Aug. 4, 2021, at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in Sichuan, to father An An and mother Bao Bao. Bao Li has a deep connection to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. His mother was born at our Zoo on Aug. 23, 2013. His grandparents, Tian Tian and Mei Xiang, are beloved in the Washington, D.C., area, where they served as ambassadors for their species for 23 years. Our giant panda conservation program is one of the world’s leading conservation efforts, proving collaboration and conservation science can save animals and ecosystems. Scientific breakthroughs from Zoo researchers and scientists have helped move the giant panda from “endangered” to “vulnerable” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. However, global conservation efforts are still necessary to ensure the survival of this species.? By studying giant panda behavior, health, nutrition, genetics, habitat?and reproduction, and training the next generation of wildlife professionals, Smithsonian teams are working to give pandas a brighter future in the wild and under human care. Although panda pair Bao Li and Qing Bao are in quarantine and will not be on view for a while, there are plenty of ways to get in on the panda fun! Project Feature! The Vue at Westchester Commons is a 238-unit multi-family apartment project located in Chesterfield County. Townes helped provide a residential element to this pedestrian-orientated retail destination. Our team handled civil engineering, surveying, environmental, geotechnical services for this project. Two reasons we loved this project: All of our departments were involved AND it's close to our office so we can see the results of our hard work!

From shopping bags to shipping bays: our Baltimore team just flipped the script on retail therapy! ??????? We recently celebrated the complete transformation of a run-down shopping center into the 442,000 SF Diamond Logistics Center. The site, just 6 miles from the Port of Baltimore, is now a hub for innovation and logistics, and we couldn’t be prouder of this ambitious redevelopment. The project completion ceremony was a hit! Project team members, subcontractors, and a crowd of brokers (thanks to CBRE) came together for half project completion, half broker’s open house, and all a good time. Cheers to progress, partnerships, and making room for the future of logistics in Baltimore! #LogisticsCenter #BaltimoreConstruction #Redevelopment
