关于我们
LCRA exists to serve the people of Texas. It’s been that way since the state Legislature created us in 1934. We continue that legacy today by providing a multitude of vital services to our customers and communities. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of the Texans we serve through water stewardship, energy and community service. LCRA produces and delivers electric power, manages the lower Colorado River and provides a reliable water supply, manages a public parks system and supports community development. We are funded by revenue we generate, the vast majority of which comes from generating and transmitting electricity. A very small portion of our revenue comes from selling water. We do not receive state appropriations or have the ability to levy taxes. We have deep roots in Texas, dating as far back as the Great Depression of the 1930s. We built the chain of dams that tamed the Colorado River and brought power to rural Central Texas for the first time.

The Wirtz Dam floodgate replacement project has officially reached the halfway point! Most of the floodgates being replaced have been in service for 73 years. LCRA is replacing one gate a time, to keep Wirtz Dam operational and able to manage floodwaters if needed. Each 60-ton floodgate is assembled in the staging area at Wirtz Dam. The 32 ft. by 50 ft. gate is put on a barge in the water, then lifted by a crane and swung into place between two concrete piers. The team only has an inch-and-a-half of wiggle room on each side of gate to get it properly placed between the piers and onto the dam. The 3 year project to remove and replace all 10 floodgates at Wirtz Dam will help ensure the dam continues to operate safely and reliably for years to come.
