Lawrence General Hospital proudly serves the Merrimack Valley as an independent, non-profit community hospital. One of the largest employers in the area, it is home to more than 180 licensed inpatient beds, about 500 registered nurses, and 450 physicians with privileges. Several of our Lawrence General Emergency Center team members marked Emergency Nurses Week in a special way when they had the chance to reunite with a patient whose life they saved 11 years ago. Thirteen-year-old Alexandre flew from Houston, Texas, to Lawrence with his mother to finally thank the caregivers who tended to him during one of the scariest moments of his young life. Through tears, his mother shared the story of how caregivers (some pictured here) helped her only son when he struggled to breathe as an infant and was rushed to the Lawrence General emergency room for treatment. Now, Alexandre is healthy, thriving and wants to be a pediatrician one day. Thank you to our team who helped nurse Alexandre back to health. Stories like this are why we do what we do!

What a week it's been for the Lawrence General Hospital team as we welcomed Holy Family Hospital's Methuen and Haverhill campuses into our new regional health care system on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies marked a crucial step in ensuring that the communities of Methuen and Haverhill have continued access to vital medical services. “We are proud to welcome Holy Family Hospital, its patients, and employees to our new regional health care system,” said Dr. Abha Agrawal, MD, FACP, FACHE, President and CEO of Lawrence General Hospital. “Stronger than the sum of our parts, we will bring high quality, equitable care to our communities with this integration.” The Methuen and Haverhill hospitals were on the brink of closure due to the bankruptcy of Steward Health Care. With strong support from the state and its Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services, Lawrence General Hospital assumes ownership and operation of the two campuses. This week, Lawrence General Hospital became the proud recipient of the The Joint Commission's Health Equity Certification. The surveyor shared that we are the first standalone hospital in MA and the first MEDITECH hospital in the nation to receive this certification. This is a prestigious accreditation https://lnkd.in/gTrJagQn that involved a day-long survey including extensive data review, interview with staff and leadership and an assessment of our performance for 25 standards and 55 elements of performance. Our team exceled on all standards and therefore received no 'findings' or action plan from the Joint Commission. The surveyor was most impressed with our data analytics and dashboards as well as our focus on taking care to the community with our Health on Wheels program. So proud of our team. Lawrence General Hospital held its 2024 Charity Golf Classic on September 9, 2024, at Andover Country Club, raising $225,000 for the hospital, which is soon to expand into Haverhill and Methuen. Thirty teams of four golfers hit the links for the tournament, with teammates from the Chew Dog Hockey team taking home this year’s tournament prize.?
As the Director of Infection Prevention at Lawrence General Hospital, I am thrilled to celebrate Environmental Services Week and extend my deepest gratitude to our exceptional Environmental Services (EVS) team. Over the past year, our EVS department has reported directly to me and working closely with this dedicated group has been a true pleasure. Their kindness, care, and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment are truly inspiring. The synergy between Infection Prevention (IP) and Environmental Services is crucial for our hospital’s success. While our IP department designs the infection prevention policies, our EVS team executes multiple of these procedures, bridging the essential gap between patients and potential infections. This collaboration is vital for reducing healthcare-associated infections and improving patient outcomes. This approach not only improves patient safety but also demonstrates the financial benefits of investing in these critical departments. To every member of the Environmental Services community: thank you for your unwavering dedication and positive impact.
