November Greensboro Bar Association & 24th Judicial District Member Meeting ?????? Today, we held our third member meeting of the 24-25 Bar year. We had a very full agenda with the 24th JD North Carolina State Bar Councilor election, the 2024 Pro Bono Award presentation, and our featured speaker from the NC Mock Trial Program. ?????? I am thrilled (!!!) to share that I was successfully reelected for a second 3-year term as State Bar Councilor for the 24th. I'm excited for the opportunity to continue serving my colleagues in Greensboro-Guilford County. ?????? I was honored to present the 2024 Pro Bono Award to GBA Member Theodora Vaporis and recognize all she does to give back to our community through her legal expertise. ?????? The Executive Director Jerry Smith of the North Carolina Mock Trial Program shared the impact the program has on high school students from all around the state. The NCMTP has grown tremendously this year, encompassing 38 of the 100 counties in NC, over 130 teams, and 13 regional competitions planned with the addition of a Virtual regional competition this academic year. ?????? Up next: The Greensboro Bar Association Annual Holiday party on December 11th!

Volunteer attorneys from the NC Disaster Legal Services program will meet with Western North Carolina residents affected by Tropical Storm Helene in order to answer questions and provide assistance with FEMA appeals for denied initial claim applications. The book program at Jones Elementary School is a wonderful GBA tradition! This year, GBA member donations will be used to allow the children in grades K-5 of the Traditional English program to select a book of their choice at the school’s Book Fair, to be held the week after Thanksgiving. We will also provide a gift book for all “graduating” 5th graders in the Spring, both in the Traditional English and Spanish Immersion programs. To accomplish this, the GBA is still seeking donations! It is also seeking volunteers to help children shop at the Book Fair in December, and to deliver the 5th grade graduation books to the students next Spring.
