Law Forward promotes a progressive vision. We exist to advance the law—to create forward progress, step by step. Through impact litigation, administrative process and public education, we are protecting Wisconsin’s fundamental democratic principles and reviving Wisconsin’s traditional commitment to clean and open government. We develop cases, identifying opportunities to use litigation to transform the law in significant ways. Law Forward works to ensure that state agencies regulate appropriately and fulfill their mandates. Our work engages policymakers, the legal community, and citizens on legal issues, expanding both opportunities and demand for progressive change. Judges are essential in our democracy. They reinforce our constitutional values when applying their best efforts to decide a case. Since no statute can anticipate every possible circumstance that will arise and our constitution does not answer every question, we count on judges to step in, uphold the rule of law, and advance our constitution. In three weeks, Wisconsinites will choose who takes a seat on our state's highest court. We, the people, have an opportunity to make our voices heard and choose wisely. Go vote!

The right to vote is absolutely fundamental in our democracy. It is the cornerstone of our entire system of governance—which Lincoln famously defined as one “of the people, by the people, for the people.” The goal of our suit against the City of Madison and Dane County on behalf of 193 disenfranchised voters is to reinforce and strengthen the right to vote in Wisconsin law. When people’s votes are not counted, when the right to vote is violated, our democracy is diminished.
