??Welcome our new representative, Ann Wang! Ann Wang is currently an SJD candidate at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Wang graduated top of her class at the National Taipei University with an M.A. in law. She also completed the Mergers and Acquisitions Graduate Certificate Program. Wang is from Taiwan, a country famous for its IT industries. The discussion about labor rights in the workplace inspired her to research the reinstatement of employees after parental leave during her undergraduate career. Her paper on that topic won her the most prestigious law school scholarship in Taiwan, given by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Throughout her graduate career, Wang studied the burden of proof of employment discrimination with an empirical statistical perspective. Her experience in legal data analysis led her to pursue her SJD (Ph.D. in law) degree at the University of Wisconsin Law School, working on the impact of cryptocurrency regulations. ___________________________ Read the Law as Science project statement:?https://lnkd.in/grq9G-Fv? I am pleased to share my latest article, Cryptogatekeepers as a Response to Conflicts of Interest in Decentralized Finance ?? posted on SSRN In this piece, I analyze the structural deficiencies of cryptoenterprises (financial DAOs) and the resulting power imbalances between cryptopromoters and cryptoasset holders. I introduce cryptogatekeepers as a new category of cryptointermediaries that can counterbalance governance failures by improving oversight, mitigating conflicts of interest, and enhancing transparency. Ultimately, my work argues that some level of re-intermediation is inevitable to sustain market integrity while maintaining decentralization. I proposed a series of best practices for cryptoenterprises, emphasizing how cryptogatekeepers can play a central role in mitigating these conflicts. Alongside the evident need for disclosures, my recommendations extend to incorporating digital identities, auditing, and transnational regulatory mechanisms, such as cryptointermediary registries and standardized reporting frameworks, to strengthen accountability in this evolving ecosystem. Comments are welcome! I’d love to hear your thoughts ?? #DeFi #Blockchain #CorporateGovernance #DAOs #Cryptogatekeepers #Fintech #Decentralization

?? New Publication Alert! ?? With the incoming Law Review Submission season, I’m excited to share my latest article, "DeFi’s Premise and Promise of Decentralization and Disintermediation" on SSRN. This piece critically examines the evolving nature of decentralization in Decentralized Finance (DeFi), challenging the prevailing assumption that DeFi eliminates intermediaries and operates without central control. While blockchain technology fosters process-based decentralization, DeFi’s structure reveals a complex interplay of decentralization and re-centralization across its various layers. The article provides a nuanced framework for understanding DeFi’s governance, efficiency, and structural dynamics, debunking myths that have shaped both academic and regulatory discourse. ?? I’m incredibly thankful to Dean Paul Caron for featuring my piece, Frequently Unanswered Questions: Scrutinizing the IRS’s Informal Guidance (available on SSRN: https://lnkd.in/dJzJcTKj), in this week’s Most Popular Tax Articles on TaxProf Blog, where it ranked #5! It's always a pleasure to represent the University of Virginia School of Law in my academic endeavors.
