Big announcement for the City of La Vergne! We were the only municipality to be named one of the 'Best Places to Work in Tennessee' by Best Companies Group! “We are extremely proud of this achievement,” says Director of Human Resources Andrew Patton, who made the announcement at Thursday’s monthly Board of Mayor and Aldermen workshop. “City Administration and department directors have been intentional about internal engagement and while compensation is a frequent topic of conversation, company morale defines the success of our organization.” The virtual awards ceremony will be held on February 13 and a publication highlighting the City of La Vergne and other winners will be published on February 24. Officers Ashley Boleyjack and Gregory Kern were honored at a special Purple Heart Ceremony in La Vergne. The ceremony, held on Wednesday, September 4, was in honor of the officers’ sacrifices during a shooting incident on October 21, 2023. Unfortunately, Officer Kern was unable to attend today’s ceremony. The law enforcement Purple Heart is awarded to department members who are seriously injured in the line of duty, by the direct action of a suspect, and requires hospital treatment for their injury. “Our officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect their community and as a result suffered physical harm while upholding their oath to protect and serve,” says Chief Christopher Moews. “We celebrate their resilience and dedication to this department, this community, and to their own recovery, both mentally and physically.” These are the first Purple Hearts awarded to La Vergne officers by the American Police Hall of Fame in the history of the department. Officer Boleyjack returned to work in January 2024 while Officer Kern remains off duty, still recovering from his injuries.
