The “UCLA Hollywood Diversity Report 2025 Presents: Part 1 Theatrical” is now available. LFI is proud to be one of the sponsors that made this important research possible, which was co-authored by LFI Scholar Dr. Ana-Christina Ramón.?This report examined the top theatrical films at the global box office in 2024. Some key findings include: ?? BIPOC share of leads, total roles, directors, and writers in top theatrical films declined in 2024 as compared to recent years. ?? Women saw major gains among leads and minimal gains among directors and total roles, but it’s unclear if increases will continue due to factors that made the year atypical. ?? BIPOC moviegoers purchased the majority of opening weekend domestic tickets (for 7 of the top 10 and 12 of the top 20 highest-grossing films worldwide). ?? Despite the shrinking selection of diverse content last year, audiences flocked to the theatrical films that represented the nation’s diversity.
