Member engagement is key to an organization's success. At LPA, "Member-led" events enable us to offer content that reflects member's talents, interests?and goals. We want to thank?Maleny Capetillo and?Cristina M. for initiating our first book club as a way of sharing their love of stories, reflection and growth through books written by Latino authors. Many thanks to Jeanne Stangel and Curative Connections for providing the perfect venue. There are many reasons to join a professional association, here's a great article (https://lnkd.in/gYKyj9uJ) to help you assess which one(s) might be right for you. It's November already; time is flying by! It is also time for another Member Monday to learn more about our members. This month's spotlight is JORGE GONZALEZ, check out his story below. My name is Jorge Gonzalez, and I have been on staff with Young Life Green Bay for 11 years. There, I serve as Associate Area Director for Green Bay, working alongside teenagers in the community. We go where students are and have created safe spaces for them to ask questions about life, faith, or any thoughts they have. My dad is from Guadalajara, Mexico, and came over here when he was 15 years old looking for a better life. Here he met my mom who is from Amarillo, TX. They got married and moved to Illinois and now live in Green Bay where they Pastor?a bilingual church called City of Hope. I am the oldest of 4. We’re all in Green Bay and met our spouses here. I am married to my beautiful wife, Lauren, and have 3 kiddos! Young Life has given us the opportunity to partner with other organizations by allowing us to bring students to give back to their own community. I also started a clothing brand, Waymakrs Apparel, to help people find what they’re good at and bring change right where they’re at. It’s an honor to help others in need by giving backpacks to students or giving around 200+ hoodies to St John’s and to those in need. I love that we get to gather and learn from each other. How we share our culture with this community is so important. How we work, raise our families, and how we live in this community says a lot to the City of Green Bay. I would love to see how we can walk alongside our teenagers and help develop leaders for today. Having a workshop where teens can come and hear the stories of their own people who have seen success in different ways. I met Juan at one of the Hispanic heritage events and from there he told me a little bit about LPA and I truly appreciate this group and the community they are building to have brothers and sisters support one another. Excited to see what this looks like 5 years from now.

Proud LPA moment. Recently Procter & Gamble (P&G) recognized two of our members for their leadership and contributions to the community. Lesly Soto who is Plant Finance Director and leads the Green Bay Latino Network at P&G, was recognized for establishing a strategic partnership with Latino Professionals Association of N.E.W. that enables community outreach, networking and support of Latino professionals in the area. Lesly’s outreach to LPA has tremendously helped young leaders at P&G. LittleJoe Hernandez who is Project Manager and co-lead of the affinity group community service pillar with Julian Sanchez at P&G, was recognized for building a relationship between the P&G plant and CollegeReady New Scholars program, a college readiness program for local underrepresented youth who want to be the first in their family to graduate from college. Together they coordinated a plant visit and career talks with students. LittleJoe is also working on developing a mentorship program for students. Congratulations to both Lesly Soto and LittleJoe Hernandez, we appreciate the tremendous impact you are having on this region!

October means Fall, leaves changing their color, and time for another member spotlight.?Today it is Guadalupe Dorado, read more about her below. My name is Guadalupe Dorado but mi gente knows me as Lupita. I am the Transition Aged Youth (TAY) Coordinator for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Brown County. We are a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that advocates for children and youth who are under court protection. We also provide mentorship to young adults who have aged out of foster care or who at one point in their lives were involved in the child welfare system. My primary role as TAY Coordinator is to oversee the mentor and mentee matches, and case management. I love what I do, and I make it my mission for the teens and young adults that I serve to know that they are so loved and worthy of good and happiness every day. ? I am from Green Bay and have spent all of my life here. I have a beautiful and wild 7-year-old daughter who has been one of my greatest teachers in life. I am the oldest of 4 kids. My parents immigrated from Jalisco, Mexico in 1994 and decided to make Green Bay their home after spending a short period of time in California. Growing up, my parents expected that we would do well in school and that we would try our best. I would consistently hear them tell us that education was key and that a good education would be something that no one could take away from us. My mom was a teacher in Guadalajara and went through so much sacrifice to be able to become a professional in Mexico and so she knew the value of education. I went through the Green Bay Area Public Schools and then attended St. Norbert College where I earned my Bachelor's in Sociology with a concentration?in Human Services. I value equitable education, authentic relationships, and a strong community.? ? Currently, I volunteer as board President for Northeast Wisconsin Latinx Rising 501(c)3. A non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Latinx individuals in education by providing scholarships as well as advocating for equitable policies in education. I am proud to be a leader in my Communidad.? ? I am grateful for LPA, the opportunities it provides, and the connections it fosters. I think there is great power and great energy when a group of Latinos/Latinas get together and share wisdom and experience with one another. I am here for it, and I love it.
