Honoring the Women of Latino Health Access on International Women’s Day At Latino Health Access, we are privileged to witness the power of women in action every single day. These remarkable leaders, healers, and changemakers are not only transforming their communities; they are lifting each other up, weaving a network of support, strength, and shared dreams. LHA women are the backbone of our mission. They stand on the front lines of health equity, advocate for justice, and provide critical services that uplift entire families. But beyond their community work, they lead with a deep commitment to one another- offering encouragement, sharing wisdom, and ensuring that no woman stands alone in the face of adversity. They bring stories of resilience from across Latin America- Mexico, Venezuela, El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, and beyond- each carrying a legacy of strength, culture, and perseverance. Their diverse experiences fuel our collective fight for a healthier, more just world. They remind us that leadership is not just about standing tall- it is about standing together. Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate their leadership, their courage, and their unwavering commitment to creating a future where every woman and every family has the opportunity to thrive. Their work is a testament to what is possible when women empower women, when communities embrace equity, and when we all commit to driving change. Join us in honoring these incredible women. Support Latino Health Access as we continue to invest in the leadership and dreams of the women who make our work possible. Together, we can build a future rooted in justice, equity, and opportunity for all. #InternationalWomensDay #WomenOfLHA #EquityInAction #LatinoHealthAccess

关于我们
Latino Health Access is a nonprofit organization founded in 1993 in Santa Ana, California. We reach out to residents in laundromats, garages, churches and our recently-opened new headquarters to combat serious public health problems plaguing a community of uninsured and under-served families. We train promotores, or community workers, to educate their own neighbors about diabetes, breast cancer, obesity, domestic violence, parenting and more. Each of our programs has been born from needs expressed by our own residents who subsequently engage their neighbors and friends. We hope you will join us in our mission for a more healthy community, whether you come to our morning walks, our afternoon exercise classes or to visit our own park and community center in one of America’s densest cities. Mission Statement To assist in improving the quality of life and health of uninsured, under-served people through quality preventive services and educational programs emphasizing responsibility and full participation in decisions affecting health. Latino Health Access engages and empowers the community, forges partnerships and advocates to achieve health equity for all. Health care is a human right.

The road ahead holds challenges -persistent health disparities, economic uncertainties, and the ever-growing needs of underserved families. Yet, amidst these challenges, our spirit remains unshakable. At LHA, we’ve learned that resilience isn’t just a word—it’s a practice. It’s the way our Promotores walk alongside families, how our youth leaders advocate for change, and how our volunteers show up, week after week, with hearts full of service. Every week, our volunteers: - Distribute food to hundreds of families at our food banks. -Create spaces of connection and healing at Corazones Verdes Park. -Support countless programs and events that uplift our community. On Saturday, January 18, we are excited to honor these incredible volunteers -our true community champions-at a special Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. It’s our chance to recognize their tireless efforts and thank them for being the backbone of so much of our work. You can join us in showing gratitude! We’ve created an Amazon Wishlist with thoughtful gifts to celebrate these amazing individuals. Your contribution, big or small, will help us express our heartfelt thanks. Your generosity will light up faces and remind our volunteers just how deeply valued they are. From all of us at Latino Health Access, thank you for believing in our mission, for standing with our volunteers, and for being part of this community of care. Here’s to a 2025 filled with resilience, gratitude, and collective action. Together, we’ll continue to build a healthier, stronger community. Join us in celebrating the incredible resilience and dedication of Las Promotoras at our Poderosas: Powerful Women event! Date: Saturday, June 29th, 2024 Time: 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM Location: 450 W 4th Street, Corner of Ross and 4th St, Downtown Santa Ana We are thrilled to unveil the impactful work of artist Alicia Rojas, who beautifully captured the essence of our Promotoras’ tireless efforts during the pandemic in 2020. The Poderosas project includes: ? A publication featuring photo portraits that highlight the individuality and collective strength of 63 remarkable women. Each photo portrait is accompanied by a QR code linking to the oral history of these Poderosas in our digital archive. The publication will be presented to the Library of Congress under the American Heroes of the Pandemic collection. ? The publication contains photo portraits that compose the collection of PODEROSAS, highlighting their individuality and simultaneously showcasing their unbeatable strength when they all come together to care and advocate for their community as a collective body. Just like how worker bees serve as an example of purpose through collective work, the Promotoras’ contributions promote the health and empowerment of their colony through collaborative work and education. ? The Promotoras of Latino Health Access are akin to the tireless worker bees of a hive. Each Promotora, like a bee, plays a crucial role in the health and survival of the community. During the pandemic, these women, though not trained as medical professionals, bravely stepped up to provide essential health education and resources to those most in need. Their collective work ensured that even the most marginalized voices were heard and cared for. ? In a beehive, every bee has a specific role that contributes to the well-being and productivity of the hive. Similarly, our Promotoras, through their coordinated efforts, created a network of support and empowerment, fostering a healthier and more resilient community. Their dedication to public health advocacy, education, and resource distribution exemplifies the power of collective action and community solidarity. ? The publication includes a forward by renowned writer and award-winning LA Times Columnist Gustavo Arellano, an introduction by curator Erika Hirugami, and text by Alicia Rojas. ? Come and experience the powerful stories of these American Heroes and be inspired by their contributions to our community’s health and well-being. ? Live performances by: Gabriel Lopez Jazz Quartet LoverSonicos - Cumbia ? Hosted by: Sara Guerrero, with guest speakers from our local leaders. ?
