As a proud partner of Wells Fargo, we are excited to share its latest report highlighting women entrepreneurs. ?? The 2024 Wells Fargo Impact of Women-Owned Businesses report revealed that women own 14 million businesses (representing 39.1% of all businesses), employ 12.2 million workers, and generate $2.7 trillion in revenue! These businesses experienced dramatic growth from 2019-2023, yet women-owned businesses could make a greater impact if the gaps between women and men were closed. The report brings new awareness to the historical differences in wealth, business experience, size of networks, industry specialization, and capital access—particularly among women of color—that impact women's ability to start and grow businesses. The report explores the kinds of support that make a difference, such as the enhanced networks and support organizations like the USHCC provides, to bridge the gaps that exist to further expand the impact these businesses have on the economy. ?? Yesterday, I proudly represented the Latino Chamber of Commerce of SEW at the Diverse Supplier Symposium hosted by Kohl’s, the Greater Milwaukee Urban League, and the Latino Chamber of Commerce SEW. For small business owners, especially in retail, this event was a goldmine of insights. One of the key takeaways? Understanding if your product or service aligns with what retail stores sell and if it meets the needs of your community. It’s not just about having a product or service, but ensuring it can stand out in the market and be truly valuable. They emphasized the importance of essentials like having a strong business plan, certifications, and clear goals. The capability statement is the first document a retail corporation will ask for—it’s your chance to stand out and showcase what your business can offer. The live pitch presentation was a great example of what corporations prioritize: clarity, product quality, and organization. They also discussed common mistakes that small businesses often make, and the importance of staying organized and presenting a clear, well-thought-out offering is key to making a lasting impression.
