The President's Cancer Panel released its latest report, Enhancing Patient Navigation with Technology to Improve Equity in Cancer Care. The report highlights four priorities for the responsible development and use of technology for patient navigation, along with specific recommendations for ways stakeholders across the cancer community can improve the use of technology to extend the reach of navigation services. We are proud to announce that LCC Executive Director, Darcie Green, proudly contributed to this impactful report. Reflecting on the work, she shared: "As the Executive Director of Latinas Contra Cancer, I am honored to contribute to this vital report that highlights the intersection of technology and patient navigation in advancing health equity. At LCC, we strive to ensure that the voices of low-income patients of color are not only heard but amplified in conversations about cancer care. This report is a testament to the urgent need for race-conscious strategies that address health disparities and prioritize equity. By integrating technology into navigation services, we can break down barriers and build systems that truly serve all patients, regardless of their background or circumstances." We extend our gratitude to the President's Cancer Panel for emphasizing these critical issues and are committed to continuing our work to advance equitable cancer care for all. This weekend, we proudly celebrated the graduation of our Defensoras Healthcare Advocate Learning Space Cohorts 8 & 9 (English and Spanish). These incredible Latinas spent 10 weeks engaging in interactive, collaborative learning, focusing on: ✅ Healthcare delivery and payer systems ✅ Effective patient advocacy ✅ Tackling race and gender-based health disparities ✅ Movement building for health equity… and much more! This milestone is not just a graduation—it’s a celebration of their dedication to driving meaningful change in their communities. We are also thrilled to share that with this graduation, we’ve reached over 100 Defensoras who are committed to taking charge of their health and collectively organizing as change agents ready to dismantle health inequities in Santa Clara County. A heartfelt thank you to: 💜 Dr. Rachel Ruiz, who delivered a powerful and inspiring speech during the ceremony. As she so clearly stated, “As defensoras, we have the responsibility to bridge the gap between the healthcare system and the people who need it most. We speak the language, we understand the culture, and we know the barriers our community faces. We are the allies, the advocates, and the connection to a healthcare system that often seems out of reach.” 💜 Our exceptional facilitators, who are also part of LCC Health Justice Fellowship, for guiding and inspiring these cohorts. 💜 Our Health Education and Organizing Coordinator for her leadership. 💜 Our catering partner for preparing delicious food that kept everyone nourished. 💜 Our wonderful staff and everyone who contributed to making this program a success. To our Defensoras: congratulations on completing this journey! Your commitment to advancing health equity and justice is truly inspiring. ¡Felicidades! 🎓

Policy Entrepreneur Nia Johnson and policy partner Latinas Contra Cancer are on a mission to advance health care equity and accessibility in East San Jose. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Next100 and Nia Johnson are proud to support Latinas Contra Cancer (LCC)'s fundraiser to provide financial relief to cancer patients dealing with unexpected medical expenses. In addition to the statistics (pictured) related to #Latina #women and #WomenofColor, especially #Black women, have higher chances of being diagnosed with breast cancer at younger ages and later stages, which leads to higher death rates. In Nia's home state, California is expected to see: 📌 32,660 new cases of breast cancer 📌 4,570 breast cancer deaths in 2024 which may further exacerbate the existing racial health disparities 👉🏽 As profit-driven companies further expand into cancer treatment centers to boost their bottom line, we must strive to keep life-saving services affordable and accessible for the patients who need it most. 👈🏽 Together, LCC and Nia are working to shape the narrative around racial equity and corporate accountability in health care. Donations are accepted year-round and every contribution makes a difference. Let's raise awareness and support those in need during this crucial time. #BreastCancerAwareness #HealthEquity #DonateNow #EastSanJose

On Tuesday evening, we had the pleasure of kicking off Latinas Contra Cancer’s 20th Anniversary with a special VIP reception. We had a joyful evening and would like to thank everyone who joined us for this memorable occasion as we begin our journey toward the main celebration on March 20, 2025. The evening was enriched by inspiring speeches from Supervisor Cindy Chavez and our incredible honorary co-chairs Hermelinda Sapien and Maya Esparza. Their reflections on LCC’s leadership and the transformative power of service reminded us of the strength of our Latino community and the importance of building collective power for a healthier future. Together, we reaffirmed our commitment to continue advocating for health equity and eliminating cancer health disparities. As our Executive Director Darcie Green shared during the event: "At Latinas Contra Cancer, our history is rooted in the leadership of Latinas who have passionately served our community based on their own lived experiences. As we look to the future, we are committed to eliminating cancer health disparities and increasing access to care by building the power of patients, addressing the health and social needs of our community, and holding healthcare delivery systems accountable to serve all patients equitably and with dignity." A special thank you to each of our past and present board members in attendance. Your unwavering support has allowed us to expand our services and support the community we serve. Your leadership, both in times of challenge and success, is why LCC has grown into the strong organization it is today. We are also incredibly grateful to all the individuals who made the evening possible. From the meticulous planning to every thoughtful detail, your efforts ensured the night was a success. You made sure each guest felt the warmth of LCC’s mission, and for that, we thank you. Thank you for your support in helping us honor the past, celebrate the present, and continue building a powerful future for our community.  We hope to see you on March 20, 2025 🩵
