*GANAS Latinx Mentorship Program* A few months ago I was scrolling through LinkedIn and saw a flyer for a mentorship program called GANAS. I had been searching for a more organized way to mentor for sometime and thought this was the perfect opportunity for me to connect with the youth in my community. I was hesitant to send my information over to the program leader because I had missed the deadline by a few days but something inside me told me to just send my information over. If it wasn’t meant to be for this particular group then I would at least be in contact for the next group. Shortly after, Nancy Apolinar emailed me back saying that I could still join and be a part of the program. This was the start of some of the most special and impactful weeks of my life. To be a part of this program and to meet such amazing individuals is a true privilege, and I am still reflecting on how inspiring the experience was. Working with these loving, driven young minds reminded me of the immense talent and potential within our community. Their parent’s dedication inspired me to give more of my time to those I love: my community, my family, and those that need support. As a mentor, I had the opportunity to share my journey, provide guidance, and—most importantly—learn from their perspectives, creativity, and resilience. Programs like this are so vital. They provide not just tools and resources but also the representation and encouragement that help young people realize their dreams. I’m proud to be part of a network that uplifts our Latinx youth and invests in their future. Thank you to the Latin American Coalition for everything they do in the Charlotte area and to the amazing program leader Nancy Apolinar During our graduation ceremony on, Friday December 13th I was asked to share a few words about my experience. I would like to finish this post with a small piece of the speech. “ A mentor is a bridge somos un puente entre sue?os y oportunidades, between challenges and solutions, entre dónde estás y dónde quieres llegar. Espero que en lo que quiera que se dediquen that you always lead with the values of hard work, resilience, and unity that define our culture.” This was a wonderful way to wrap up my time in Charlotte, North Carolina—for now. As I prepare to move to Denver, Colorado in the coming months, I’m eager to connect with organizations in the area that offer mentorship programs.
